Where on earth do I find them? I have books of fiddle tunes for dulcimer & mandolin, but I have no clue what they're supposed to sound like. There must be cd collections out there somewhere....

Hm, what if you were to Google the name of the song and then see if there is something on YouTube?
(I have actually just picked up my violin form waaaayyy back when and am starting to play again and am having trouble finding music for it. There is lots on the web but nothing seems to be jumping out. I'm actually looking for Contempoary Christian.)

Let me know how you get on.

Sherrie - off the top of my head I can think of the Stewart brothers who play with Martha Scanlan - lot's of bluegrass players throw in some old-time music too....
I think there is an old-time festival down your direction, San Francisco? My cousin's husband is in an old time band and played there last year, the festivals are sort of like this forum for getting info
Other names....Atlas String Band, Packway Handle Band
Good luck!!

Sherrie,

Every year at the Howard County fairgrounds, in Maryland, we have the Sheep and Wool Festival. There's a gal who comes and has her own label-Maggie's Music, Inc. You can reach her at www.maggiemusic.com or call-(410) 268-3394. She has the greatest hammered dulcimer mucic. She also carries other artists. If you happened to have heard the advertisement for the PBS special, by Ken Burns, that's about our National Parks, the guitar piece that is being played is an artist that Maggie carries. His name is Al Pettaway and he's fantastic. She has holiday music, Celtic themed music, folk music, etc. All her CD's are very reasonable and I have quite the collection. Just about any mood you need music for, she's got it. Hope this helps.

Happy listening,
Bonnie
