I LOVE sunflowers! They seem like such a "happy" flower! My desk where this computer is has a orange and yellow striped runner, a rooster and sunflower lamp, and sunflower bowls to hold the paperclips, etc. Then I have a big orange pitcher holding a bunch of sunflowers as a decoration. I enjoy sitting here...

I love sunflower seeds. Shelled they make a great desert with vanilla ice cream, honey and sunflower nuts. I fixed this for a cooking show at the state fair in Minnesota while working for the Minnesota Dept. of Agriculture.

I harvested my jumbo sunflowers last week. It was me against the blue jays! They were flying all around me, picking up the seeds that I sent flying onto the ground. I cannot *believe* how many seeds I have to plant for next year, I'm so excited!!

Not to ask a dumb question, but how do I best harvest the seeds from my giants? The heads are all droopy and they definitely look like they have had their time in the sun. How do I know they are ready to harvest? How do I harvest them? Thanks!
