Hi girls,

I know this may sound weird, but I have 2 brand new tents and thought seriously last night about camping out in the backyard. I even have a brand new propane stove. I always intended to take my kids camping, but we never did, now they are 21 and 15 yrs old. The younger one seems to have no interest. I love nature, and thought it would be kind of like a getaway. My husband says that 'camping is for kids'. I am 40.

I look at pics of other girls campers, and I WISH I had one. I would love it, but that is not something I can afford to buy anytime soon.I'd love to go tramping, fish, meet other farmgirls, but maybe someday I will be able to do it. I want to do something other than being a mother and wife- something for me.

Is it dumb to camp out in the back yard?

I camp out all the time. I could care less what my hubby thinks. The kids like to. I set the tent up, bring out the grill, set up my hammock and "Run Away". Even after my tent got ripped, before it go fixed, I blew up my air mattress set out my feather bed on top of it. Snuggled down with a flash light, so i could read and sleep!! I LOVE IT. There comes a time about every few weeks when I feel this deep down NEED to go outside and be alone with the world.
I say DO IT DO IT DO IT!! Go outside and sleep , cook and breathe in the wet morning air.
Do it for yourself, you will be glad you did...

I don't think it's crazy at all! We used to do it all the time when I was little. I camp with my best friend now when we go trail riding. DH hates camping, so I just go by myself. I LOVE it!!

Camping in the backyard is not only a great idea it's a SPECTACULAR IDEA!!!!
We haven't done it yet this summer but love to camp!!!!

Go for it!!!!

My daughter and I have a "girls getaway" every spring when she is on spring break (she is a teacher). I think I'm going to suggest that this next time we getaway we go "glamping". She'd love it and it would be fun . . . just the two of us. We'll see if we can pull it off!!!

HAPPY CAMPING!!!!

well it is going on 6:30 am, and what a nice sleep i had last night! Oliver, my beagle cozied up with me, i read a little of my book, and then went to sleep. It was so peaceful and wonderful! I will be doing that again. It is in the 50's here this morning-perfect temp! Here is a pic of the tent after it was first set up (the sun was in my eyes), no makeup, and my hair pulled back, LOL - and ollie is with me in the pic- notice my farmgirl patch too on my tent

Connie, even when the weather changes to those clean brisk mornings, it's a great feeling to wake up to...
There is something wonderful about being snuggled in your bedding or sleeping bag on a crisp autumn morning...you just want to stay there, listen to the magical sounds of nature & hope to heck you won't pee your panties before you can brave slipping outta your bedding to make that mad dash to the latrine! lololol!
Oh and it would be nice if some one would bring you your java too! LOL!
I love being a Glamping princess! hahaha!

I will be perking my coffee outside next! I ordered another huge tent last night. As you can see, the one I have could fit 2 people, but I wanted it to myself, lol. My dog ollie just loved snuggling with me. I want to sit outside and cook over an open fire too! I just love the thought of it....and yes, the 'peeing' thought did cross my mind after I woke up very early in the morning, I was not going to get up and go. LOL

I don't think this woman is on the forum anymore but you might enjoy her outdoor kitchen and sleeping arrangements. You could easily have the tent instead of her tent camper popup. Here's her link.
http://www.maryjanesoutpost.org/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=907 Then hit outpost of your own, then my outpost w/ chuckwagen added. Hope it works can't seem to get a direct link.
We always have spur of the moment "campouts" on the deck. Since there are no bugs here we just throw the sleeping bags on the deck. JoAnn

Hi Joann,
thanks for that link, that is so cool! (and inspiring). We rent this house, but it it were ours, I would make a part of the yard a permanent camping retreat.

we are currently looking at houses on a bunch of land, so I'm hopeing to do this soon. When I was a kid my parents lived on half an acre and in the summer nights I'd sleep out on the hammock. The town they live in though is pretty fun. Each little half acre is a ranch or a farm. I fell asleep to the sounds of horses, sheep, donkeys, llamas, goats, geese, pigs and crickets. and this was just our backyard! The neighbors had huge meat hogs and they faught and faught. The sound of pig fights was certainly an effective alarm clock though!

have fun! watch out for those skeeters and if your alone, bring a dog. they always make me feel much safer.
