Kris- do you have MaryJane's Ideabook? I think the cooked apple pie filling is in there. If not I will look in my back issues and find it...

My MIL gave me this recipe and maybe it is similar to the MaryJane one. It makes 6-7 quarts.
Blend together- 4 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup cornstarch
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
Stir in 10 cups of water and cook until thick. Add 3 tbsp. of lemon juice. Pack sliced apples into
hot jars. Fill with syrup leaving 1/2" head space. Process 20 minutes in water bath canner.

Thanks, Toby. I will try that. It sounds really good and not too much work.

Alee, I do not have that book. I need to get it.

I used this recipe and doubled the spices, added 1/2 tsp cardamom, changed the sugar to 3 cups and added 1 1/2 c honey, and it was divine! I don't know if its the honey or what, but it tasted so buttery! Pack your apples good to get your 7 quarts, and use a chopstick to get the bubbles out.

I give this recipe four wooden spoons!

Thank goodness I found this post. I picked about 60 lbs of apples from a local orchard over the weekend. I've been making apple butter, but wanted to make some pie filling as well. Can't wait to try this recipe! Thanks ladies.
