NYAA but am a satisfied user of Sambucol for illnesses. Sambucol was developed by an Isralie female scientist and uses elderberry as its primary ingredient. If taken at the first sign of colds or flu, it can really shorten the illness lifespan and decrease symptoms.
I also use an elderberry concentrate and drink the juice one week out of the month. Elderberry is what used to be used to build up the immune system.
It's expensive but not as expensive as being sick and having to hire someone to do my chores -smile-.
Like I said, no affiliation but this stuff works and thought I'd pass along the information.

This sounds like something to look into. Last week was our first full week of school for the kids and low and behold I have a sick boy home from school today. Fever, stuffy nose and a cough and now I am feeling a tickle in my throat. We went all summer without one cold and now that school starts so do all the germs. Is elderberry something children can have? I'll have to check it out at our local nutrition store.

I've heard of this helping boost the immune system and was actually looking for a recipe to try making my own :) Thanks Sandra :)
Oh, and I never thought to use it once a month, duh! I immediately associate Elderberry with cold and flu. Great idea :)

I haven't used the Sambucal, but I do use an elderberry/honey mixture from a place called Honey Garden Apiaries. I swear by it! I'm a teacher, and used to get colds, sinus infections, strep, and even pnuemonia a few times. This past year I started taking the Honey Garden elderberry mixture, plus honey from my own bees. I only had one cold all of last year!

I second elderberry...it is fantastic. I also do a warm glass of water in a mug with a tablespoon each of apple cider vinegar and honey. Do this every night and I don't know what it does but it sure helps my immune system.
