Nora, Tala and I went for a walk today. The side of the river closest to the horse ranch has dried up, all but one pool. Then there is the island, and then on the other side the river is still flowing.
In the left over pool there were TONS of Tadpoles, Minnows and there were so many toads hopping around on the rocks! I even saw one little green and red mottled frog! It was so much fun! Nora had lots of fun getting dirty and Tala was snorting and blowing the whole time getting all of the scents and learning. She hasn't ever seen fall in this area before and lots of the sights are new to her.
We walked around the island a bit but it is covered with sedge grass and Nora cut her finger- so that kind of cut our journey short a bit.

I love watching tadpoles. I remember once walking along Lake Michigan as a child and seeing a pool brimming with tadpoles. I could hardly believe that they would turn into frogs. Nora will forget that she cut her finger but she won't forget seeing the tadpoles, minnows and frogs. cindy

Alee, we live with frogs here, too. Really. Sometimes in the house! All the grands are into bugs and all kinds of creatures. Kansas has something just about everyday wanting a new critter house for it. And her pool is the frog nursery. Thousands of frog eggs, then tadpoles then more frogs. There have been 4 tadpoles in one of those hospital throwup containers out on the table for months now. It's down to 2. And of course every time it rains it rains more frogs.Whats so horrible is when we clean out the pool and there are any frogs in there, the chickens snatch them up quicker than we can save them. Horrible chickens!
But isn't that so neat that the kids just love nature? And they can find the coolest things out there to play with. I'm so very glad no one has brought a snake to my door yet asking for a jar or box!
Have fun out there! Kris
