Tighten up your bootlaces and head out into the wilderness with a diverse and intriguing group of women whose stories run the gamut of on-the-job adventures...

Jennifer Bové's new book, A MILE IN HER BOOTS, is an unprecedented collection of creative nonfiction by women who perform a variety of outdoor occupations, from smoke jumping to biology, river running to professional falconry, horse packing to atmospheric science, and more. Some of the contributors are established authors (including MaryJane herself!), others are first timers, but all share compelling tales from the frontlines of wilderness work.

Publisher: Solas House
Release Date: April 28, 2006

I had the privledge of meeting Jennifer at the first Farm Girl Campout. She's a wonderful, young, talented woman and mother of two beautiful girls. Got her first book and it was wonderful and am anxiously awaiting the second and I too LOVE the cover. JoAnn

Hey Ladies,
Isn't the cover gorgeous??? The photo was taken by Erik Jacobson at MJ's Farm - he's an artistic genius as far as I'm concerned.
Anyway, hope you have as much fun reading the book as I did putting it together.
Jen

(ps - Thanks, JoAnn!)

Whelll thanks, ladies. Jen's the tops as far as MJ and i are concerned and we put our heads together to do her book up right. Anna is the unsung hero, though. She waded through miles of trecherous idaho rivers and it took her several weeks of recouperation to get the blue out of her toes from this shot. But she never complained, even when the fish she caught along the way were barely bigger than tadpoles.

Thanks Eric and thanks Anna Blue Toes it's a wonderful picture. The other picture I really love is the one of Maryjane and Nick holding each other, back to the camera and looking out at the fields.Did you take that one Eric? JoAnn

Not to worry, ej. Your work is top-notch. We'll have to get Anna some of those crushable hand and feet warmers for her next sojurn into the river for those barefoot photo expeditions!

Eric, Your work is ever bit as good as that the National Geographic guy. Keep up the good work. I wish there was a poster of yours!

Clucking away, Ms. Femme, thanks. How're you?

Not much time for the forum or anything else lately i'm afraid. And by the way, this is a good read. I had a gander at the manuscript and read 3 of the stories, including MJ's. Jen did a great job. I look forward to reading the rest of it.

Erik and Anna - Lovely job on the cover - and nice to "see" you both again! I can't wait to read the book; the stories sound so interesting.

I hope all is well and good with you..
