What in the world is this? This is a plant that popped up at the home of a friend of mine and I can't figure out what the heck it is!?!?!

Is there any foliage with the plant? It looks like the red berries of the Arum plant. MB

Marybeth, from the photo, I'd have to agree with you. Doesn't red hot poker have tube-like flowers? Those look like round balls to me. I've seen it, I just have never known what it was called.

We make a difference.

No foliage at this point and yes, they're more like round balls....not sure if they'll open or not.

IF I am correct those berrylike balls will turn a gorgeous red later on.
The berries are very poisonous so beware!! YES it is an Arum plant, MaryBeth is right. When I do my mail route I pass a house that has a few as well. Adorable but as I said, the berries are poisonous

Wow - we had one pop up (we've lived here 18 years and it was the first time we'd ever seen it). The oddest thing about it is that it doesn't have foilage. Thanks for ID-ing it.

Yep...that actually looks a lot more like it! So hard to tell...I thought maybe the little round balls would open up at some point.

Thanks!!
