I've just learned that peach pits are powerful medicine for nausea, heat sickness, etc. For a tincture, you just save them after pitting peaches, and when you have a quart or so, put them in a jar and pour grain alcohol over them, shaking daily for a couple of weeks. Here is the original article: http://bearmedicineherbals.com/?p=523

Interesting. I've been saving my cherry pits to use to put in a fabric bag and put my the wood stove to be warm, then put in your bed for toasty toes, lol.

Won't that much grain alcohol make any body feel good for a while? And there states that you can not buy Grain Alcohol.

Hopefully you won't be drinking that much alcohol at once! Usually a dose of tincture is a few drops. One thing to know about alcohol tinctures is that the alcohol is very unbalanced, being mineral deficient. This makes it "hungry", and when combined with the herbs it draws out the minerals from the plant and becomes more balanced, and less like alcohol.

Hope that helps,

It is very interestting that 2 poisons mixed together can make a cure, to me that would be a little scary.

Ladies I have not heard of using the pits for nausea but I do know that peach seeds actually contain Cyanide. In most cases it is not enough to cause harm but soaked in grain alcohol may be different. An old trick we nurses use if a patient is nauseated and we are having a hard time getting in touch with the doctor an alcohol pad can be sniffed and it blocks the nausea receptors. It is a temporary relief but it does work.

No need to panic about poisoning, ladies, unless you drink half a bottle of the stuff! I'd be hard-pressed to think of many foods that did NOT contain a little poison (Think of potatoes, tomatoes, and eggplants with their solanine, and rhubarb with oxalic acid.). Mother Nature usually buffers poisonous compounds so that we can use them, but in moderation, of course.

If the prussic acid in peach pits worries you, you can always use the leaves and twigs, too. I've been drinking peach leaf tea and taking the tincture to help get over a bad head cold, and have experienced a definite calming, peaceful effect.

Have a blessed day!

I've always known alcohol to pull out only the medicine from a plant. Vinegar pulls out the nutrients of a plant.
