I've always thought that the old travel trailers were cool. I found a starter model to get me and the hubby out on the road. Not as old as I may have wanted but in our area some of the older ones in poor shape are going for a pretty penny. So mines a 1968, it will go well behind our 1969 ElCamino.

The inside was in fair condition.....missing the ice box which we found at a local bone yard for RV's. I've scraped and painted, hubby reworked the plumbing and the counter tops and missing table. I still have new curtains to make. Haven't decided on a theme yet....and plan on making new cushions with piping.

I have looked over the Sisters on the Fly members pictures and have gotten a few ideas. Another cool site is The Southwest Vintage Camper Association. The guy that does alot of the pictures has just relocated to our area. He does some fantastic restorations!

So for now I have my "starter" camper for lots of fun! Someday I'll find another project a little older and a little more challenging.

I'll post some pic's soon if anyones interested.

Heather, Can't wait to see pics of what you do to it. I purchased one also a few months back. I too found the older ones that I wanted were either too pricey or way more work than I wanted. Mine is a 65 Aristocrat. I did all the curtains and paint myself. Had the seats reupholstered. I'm waiting to get my tags end of this month so I get the two years for what I would have paid for one. My blog has pics. Have'nt named it yet. Any suggestions? Have fun with yours.

Gail, I just took a look at your blog and OMG! Your Aristocrat is so similar to my 68 Security. Probably a sixties thing but very cool! I love what you did with the shelf/bunk in the back. I so much want to do that but have to wait for now. The previous owner had the bunk enclosed into a storage area with two doors. My appliances are the dreaded avacado green but its all mine and has sooooooooo many possibilities. I'll get my in progress pic's posted toot sweet. Nice meeting you and your blog is pretty neat!

Keep looking Claudia! I had driven past mine for a year before I finally decided to knock on the door of the old farm house thats on the edge of town. The guy had ideas of making it into a hunting camper but when I stopped back again three months later he said "you take it" I handed him the cash and towed it home. Patience is a virtue......but boy was my patience wearing thin! Keep your eye out when driving around you'd be surprised whats hidden out there just waiting to be loved!

Heather, it looks great. As far as the stove, you could always paint it. I really would have loved a pink one. Thanks for the compliments on mine. Hope to see what you do with yours also. Just have fun with it. Nice meeting you too.

OK, Heather,,,you are almost there, got the trailer now go have fun,,,,you have a sweet trailer to "cutsiefy up to your hearts content!
We painted our stove in the '63 Scotty..& will do the same for the Aljo..so go for it!
Oh and don't stop there,,,,shop till you drop, spray paint till it runs dry & before you know it you'll be towing your "lil girl" and making wonderful Glamping memories.
I just posted a pic of the coffee pot that I spray painted to use in my '59 Aljo...take a peek....(gracie's vict.rose) oh and if you go about 13 pics down you will see the coffee pot before i painted it, sitting in my Scotty.

Grace I just love yours too! What kind of paint did you use on the stove? I'm worried that the heat will peel it back off.
The painting is almost done except for the bottom of one cabinet. I went with a off white on two walls (kitchen and opposite)and a tannish white on the ends (table and bed). I've decided to make two sets of curtains for when the mood hits or when hubby rolls his eyes to much about the fluff. I choose upholstery fabrics that match the antique bandana material I made for the "western" look and it also matches the cabbage rose fabric for the "glam" look.
Love the suitcases. After I saw the one in MJf mag. I went out and found one for 2 bucks and started personalizing it. I can't wait to hit the road and meet up with some Glam Gals on the road!
My daughter is helping me out with starting up a blog so I can post more pics easier. I'll let you all know when that takes off.

Hey Heather,
blogging is easy & is a great way to post pic's of your trailer progress...so us nosey nellies can peek in & steal your terrific creative ideas...LOL!
On my SCAMP trailer I used a paint called "Hammered Metal" for the stove & had no issues with the flame, but I never turned the flame up to high....no need to.
I kind of miss my SCAMP, wish I had not sold it but, no tears,,,I now have 2 trailers, well 1 trailer & one skelton! lol!
On the Scotty we used Krylon spray paint...we washed & de-greased the stove really good. Then spray painted about 3 coats of paint. I have tested it w/a pot on the burner....again I never turn the flame up past med. And no problems.
You can buy BBQ/Appliance paints but they are very limited in color choice.
I do recomend that you back your curtains because of 2 things,,,one the sun shines through, and for better privacy and secondly to prevent sun rot on your nice fabric. I just use a solid color on the side that will face outside and my cute print on the inside. On the Scotty I used pink and my hubby pointed out that the exterior paint is white & blue....& my responce was,,,"It's my trailer buckoo!" LOL!
Don't limit yourself to decorating because of space,,,,I have a couple of those large plastic containers to store my stuff in and then when I get to my campsite I pull out & decorate...this way I don't have to worry about things falling or what ever when on the road. Plus since I have 2 different themed trailers I keep stuff pertinant to each trailer in their own container and the 3rd container is stuff that i can use in either trailer.
Aren't those old suitcases great? perfect to store stuff in & yet they look cute as a decroator element in the trailer...
I also tote along a little "single burner" that I use outside for frying up stinky stuff like fish!
Your's sounds like it is going to be cuter than cute, I can hardly wait to see it....so get your blog up & running...
trailer hugz,
