Today I got hubby to pick a bushel and half of pears off our trees over at the two acres. Plan on canning them, making a pearsauce similar to applesauce and pear pie. So good.

Sounds great Laurie. My pears won't be ready for another month or so in the Northeast. Would you share your recipe for the pearsauce? I would like to try it. Thanks!

Barb, This is how I make my pearsauce:
10 lg. pears peeled and cored, 4 cups sugar, 3 cups water, 2 lemons(zest and juice) cinnamon and nutmeg to taste 6-9 pint jars
prepare jars for canning. Peel and core pears I quartered the pears. Add pears to lg. dutch oven with the sugar, water, zest and lemon juice. cook over medium heat stirring constantly (so it doesn't stick) until pears are tender about 30 minutes or so. turn down heat to a simmer add spices and cook for another 30 minutes.
take of heat mash pear mixture to resemble a slightly chunky sauce. laddle sauce into hot pint jars and proscess for 10 min. cool on towel undisturbed for 24 hr. if you have any questions just ask.

Thanks Laurie,
Sounds wonderful. I will definitely be making some when the pears are ready. Usually the end of August, early September around here. I am always looking for ideas to use them. I'll bet it smells really good simmering.

Ew, I love pears. I have 3 Bartlett pear trees I planted 3 years ago. I am so ready for them to produce but I know it will be a few more years. I wish I had mature trees now.

Good luck with your canning.

It does smell good when the pears are simmering. Planning on canning them this weekend. I made a pear pie the other day. Just like an apple but with pears it's so good.
