I was asked by my friend Kathy and former boss, to come in on Fridays at 3:00 to read to the elders for 1/2 an hour or so....

I have at last count about 1000 books in this old house, but am wondering what would be a good choice? The average age of the residents I will be reading for is 82...

Any suggestions??

Thank you gals!

Maybe something from their era's or even something they read when young, that is kind of fun. I still enjoy some of the "old" stories.

Rae....I did a little research and figure the average age of the residents at the Harbors is 82 so I did the math went online searching for popular books in the 40's, 50's and 60's and I found a dozen in my own stacks. Funny huh? I think I will start with How Green Was My Valley....they made a movie about it a long time ago and I just loved it. Wish me luck tomorrow! I really want this to work out and then we can have discussions about the book etc. Thanks for the suggestion Rae!

I used to read to my grandma when she was in the nursing home. I always read to her from her bible. She had given it to me and her favorite passages were marked.

It's not about being perfect, but enjoying what you do. Set aside time to be creative.
