Does anyone know how much lavender oil to add to my home made liquid laundry soap? I have made a five gallon bucket of laundry soap including castele soap, washing soda and borax. But would like to add a nice scent to it, and have no clue how much.
Would appreciate some input.

It's up to your own personal discretion. The scent will mostly wash out so if you want your clothes to smell like the scent, you need to add it in the rinse cycle. I would start with a good 30-40 drops in your soap and see if that is strong enough for you, but basically it will just be making the act of pouring the soap that much more pleasant. If a scent is left on your clothes from the soap, then it will most likely disipate by the time they are dry. At least that has been my experience.

Also, if you can make a spritzer bottle with water and essential oil and spray in the dryer then dry the clothes.
I do not know about the soap but the essential oil I sell if you put 2-3 drops in the bath tub you will smell it all over the house for hours. I would think just a couple of drops added to the agitating water would do the same thing. But Alee has more experience with the soap so I will not argue anything she says. But you might try it directly into the water.

Thank You ladies for your help. I really appreciate it. This being my first experience with home made laundry soap. It does make more sense to add it to the rinse cycle. Probably using my downy ball with a little water and a few drops of oil. Another question arises with this. If I am using vinegar in my downy ball, it seems the vinegar will pretty much take away whatever the scent would be? So, perhaps there is some other way, like the spritzer bottle for the dryer? A new experience, thanks again!

Hey Sheri! I make my own soap as well and infuse my white vinegar with lavender for the final rinse. I soaked 1 cup of lavender flowers in 1 quart of white vinegar for a week, strained it and added 3-4 drops of oil to it. That's my final rinse. I decided it was better on salads, though! LOL! It still lightly scents the clothes. I do spritz the dryer with lavender and water, but I tend to spritz EVERYTHING with lavender water! It's my favorite!

hey Sheri,
I agree with the gals, when you add E.O. to your soap it smells so good but gets washed out in the cycle...better to create a Lavender spritz to spray on a "dryer rag" to toss into your dryer...I try to avoid spritzing directly onto the clothing...so I have a couple of old terry cloth scraps that I literally soak & wring out or spritz really good w/my lavender spritz & toss the rag into the dryer.
I make my own spritz using distilled water infused w/dried lavender buds...sort of like steeping tea...then I strain it through a coffee filter to get the seeds & bits out. Then store in a spray bottle in my refridge...I make it fresh about once a week...as it will turn as it ages.
I think I will experiment with it by trying to freeze it to see if it will keep longer...
enjoy....oh & Vodka is a good base for lavender too...not to mention makes a fantastic Lavender Martini! lol!
