in order for hens to lay their eggs? I asked this query in another board, but thought i'd post it here just in case. a father of my friend says you do, but my husband did his research and can't find anywhere that you need a rooster in order to get eggs. this is our first year raising chickens and one of the chicks became a rooster, so now we have to decide what to do with him.

No you don't need a rooster for hens to lay eggs. Just like a man a rooster is only good for one thing---fertilization. LOL You can keep the rooster around though they are fun to have and will usually tend to their little flock. MB
No, you do not need a rooster to get eggs. If you are lucky enough to have a gentle rooster it is great to run him with your hens. Mine is such a protector of his girls and does his best to keep them out of danger.
this is good to know... my hubby is paranoid the neighbors will start getting aggravated by "Petey" crowing, even though we are in the country and there are no restrictions on roosters. and even though i enjoy Petey, i do want to keep good graces with our wonderful neighbors!
