I made the detergent. I like it. I washed my sheets and hung them out this morning. They're already dry. And they smell so good! I put some patchouli EO in the 2 tps with hot water. I really don't smell it though. I had to get the PH Increase because I couldn't find the washing soda.

Kristin- the EO will wash out mostly. If you want some scent you could try adding it to vinegar in the rinse.

I will try that with the next wash load. Thanks. Although it really doesn't need it. I don't really like to smell like a laundry mat. Just wanted a little bit of different smell. I have peppermint and lemon and sandlewood EO, too.

I have a front loader and I just put the 2 tablespoons in with the laundry before I shut the door then I know it won't mess up anything and that works too. I love the homemade laundry soap and I love pink stuff so I need to find the pink Zote soap . Hopefully they will have it at our walmarts too.

Good for you Beverly! So thrilled you made it! You won't go back to anything else! LOL! Walmart carries ZOTE! I buy it for 99 cent there. Love the smell!

Does this soap work well in cold water washes?

I am intrigued by lilac wine. We have a batch of blackberry wine going now and soon grape.

Would you share you recipe, please?

Hi Robin!

Yes, it works well in cold water. You could take 1 -2 tablespoons of the laundry detergent and mix it with a little hot water until it dissolves, then add it to the wash.

Recipe is on my blog a few post down. You will see in that post a link to an older post I did with the recipe!

Hugs!

I made a batch of detergent tonight using Fels Naptha and I really loved the fresh smell. I'm so tired of commercial detergents that smell like fruit salad or imaginary nature scents. I did three loads of laundry tonight and would love to stay up all night and do more. I used the vinegar in the rinse water, via the fabric softener dispenser and was amazed at how soft my clothes are, and no static cling either! I'm hooked!

Oh my stars
all of this talk about pink laundry D
Mom would laugh.
I might give it a whirl.
And you are sure it is safe for front load washers and dryers.
Hubby would kill me if something happened to our new set. lol
Can you use a med. size food processor for the soap thingy?

I love love love my laundry soap but I can't get the pink soap to melt. I put some in a pint jar of hot water and shake it but it still won't melt. I just pour it in anyway and it seems to be fine. But I just use cold water. I haven't seen pink soap on anything yet so I guess it's ok and eventually gets dissolved.

Kristen, maybe next time, grate the bar soap up real fine. I did that in my last batch and it blends in great!

Shelia, I am sure you can use a med. food processor. I do it with my KitchenAide attachment. I have many family and friends who use it in the HE front load washer! Dryer is perfect! Just add vinegar in your rinse water!

Sheila- It is very safe. The reason you have to watch for special HE detergents is because the other ones put a special additive in to make them foam up! People think suds=clean but that isn't the case. Suds are just bubbles. Lots of things can create the proper surface tension in water to make bubbles, not just soap.

Anyway my point is, the homemade laundry soap in the proper amounts (about two tablespoons for HE washersr)do not provide enough soap to be really sudsy and hurt your machine. And no silly unneeded fillers that can cause trouble.

Hey
Who needs suds if it gets your clothes clean
My opinion is that;
the suds in the stuff we buy today makes our clothes have more residue in them
I have found that out;
because of trying to spot clean something and it suds up . lol hugs

If you all do have a front load machine
How much do you put in it?
I haven't even had a chance to use mine new set; cause we haven't moved in.
Like I said;
If I ruined them; hubby would kill me. Lol hugs sheila

I made my first batch of laundry soap. I have a front loader and it worked fine. I love it. My clothes smell so clean! I gave some to my friend and she is going to try it too. Can't wait for her to tell me how she likes it.

Maryjane, I love my front end loaders. I got mine right after Thanksgiving last year. They are so quiet you can't even tell they are running. I can even wash my horse blankets in them. Can't wait to try my laundry soap on them.
