I'd love to make some homemade horse treats for my girls. Has anyone tried it??

I have a whole recipe book around here somewhere! I'm going to pick up our newest calf addition right now but I'll see if I can find it and put it on here for ya!

Found it and I have a few minutes so here's acouple!
Dream's Surprise
6 carrots, sliced
2 cups dried oatmeal
1/2 cup molasses
1 1/2 cups applesauce
Mix all ingredients together until coated in a feed bucket!
Applesauce Horse Cookies
1 cup sweet feed
2 to 3 cups bran
1 cup flax seed
1 T salt
4 large carrots, shredded
1 cup molasses
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup applesauce
Mix the molasses, brown sugar, carrots and applesauce in one bowl. In another, mix the dry ingredients. Slowly combine the molasses mixture iwth the dry ingredients. Add only enough molasses mixture to form a thick dough. Add more bran if necessary. Line cookie sheet with aluminum foil. Using a tablespoon, drop batter onto cookie sheet and flatten slightly to form portions about the size of a silver dollar. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour, flip cookies over and bake an additional 45 minutes until they are dried out. Just keep checking to make sure they don't burn!

This is exactly what I was searching for! Thanks, Melissa!! The applesauce cookies sound yummy (minus the sweet feed! lol). The premade ones are so darn expensive. We're going to Emenince, Missouri this fall for the week-long Cross Country Trail Ride and I wanted something I could pack for the trail as a reward for the girls' hard work along the way.
I'll look for this book next time I'm at TSC...I didn't even think to look for a whole book! Thanks again! Can't wait to get bakin'!

Connie and Alee (or anyone else interested!) if you'd like some more recipes and can't find the book - email me your addy and I'll copy some off and send them to you, most of them are short, easy recipes! I was at TSC last night and didn't see it there...maybe it's out there over the web on one of the book sites? Good luck and have fun with your horses!!!

Also, you can google 'horse treat's and come up with a lot of recipes. Personally, I'm in the baby carrots camp but I DO suppose they wouldn't last for long on a camping trip! hehehe....
