This is too far for you to drive to, but we are spending the day at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL. I do volunteer work there and I am working the morning as a greeter. I'm packing a picnic lunch to take along. We'll have our own little barbecue and watch fireworks from our front deck. Our neighbor is a licensed pyrotechnic and he puts on an incredibly professional show every year. It is better then the local towns! We usually have iced tea and eat popcorn & watch the fireworks. If the mosquitoes are nasty, we watch from our living room window.
