Hello Farmgirl Sisters. I was wondering, a friend of mine wants me to help her make soap, and I have not made it for 5 yers. Lost all of the addys of the suppliers of my ingredients. Can any of you help me? Where do you get all of your supplies, and amounts, maybe soap recipes... I made it for years....and feel like a real dummy, not being able to remember nor find anything... Thanks sooooo much!!!!!!!!!
Hey Terri! It's like riding a bike - you never forget! As far as suppliers go, Wholesale Supplies Plus is one of my favorites. The offer everything!! Here's a basic beginning soap recipe that I got from someone else - you can get everything at the grocery store (Wal-Mart has coconut oil). The lye will be the hardest to get and you will probably have to order this online or pick up from a local supplier.
You can replace the shortening with palm oil but that is harder to find. Try an ethnic grocery store for that one or order online. Please run this through your own lye calculator before making. Magestic Mountain Sage has a good one.
Terri - go to www.thesage.com. There is a link to the lye calculator. You will put in the amount of each oil and fat you are using. Then click calculate and it will give your the proper amount of lye and water to use for the oils and fats that you are using. The lye and water amounts will always vary depending on the saponification values.
