I am so happy,,,,I finally have had time to go through my small Lavender Field and am happy to say that I have 111 healthy lavender plants, mostly Grossos and they are all doing well...I have a few small plants that were hard hit this past Winter & I had to replace 10 plants...but they are hanging in there.
I also have 5 by the front of the house (making 116 total plants)that are doing super dooper! Yeah!
I look forward to harvesting my lavender in the next few weeks,,,even though about 1/4 of the plants need to be harvested asap so I think I know what I will be doing first thing tomorrow morning!
I Love Lavender.......I even have a little bench out in the middle of my little field so I can sit and enjoy my plants.
I have taken pics,,and will try to get around to down/uploading them either tonight or tomorrow to show you.
Did I mention, I Love Lavender? l

Hi Grace, I was wondering.......do you like Lavender?? LOL! Me too, I adore the fragrance, the flowers all of it. I have a couple in my front garden and also in the back. I want more but my front garden first needs some work. BUT when that is done my whole border will be LAvender.

Hugs from a fellow lavender fan :)

hey Dutchy,
yep! Lavender, lavender, lavender..a gal can never have enough lavender!
I mix my dry buds w/my dried choclate mint leaves to make a yummy herbal tea.
I also make lavender scones too!
I hope to some day to get certification for growing Organic Lavender....but it is a slow 5 year process to get the certification.....slow is good...in the mean time I know that my lavender is natural, just me, my dirt & my bees.....
Marian, if you steep some dried buds in hot distilled water, then strain the 'tea' 2x through a coffee filter you will have a wonderful lavender spritz. Store the unused spritz in the fridge....

Hey girls!
I LOVE lavender but can't grow it around my over shady house! A friend sends me bunches and I make lavender honey and lavender sugar. Both great in tea! I use the sugar on cookies too!

isn't it great!!! it has soothing properties, medicinal properties, can be used in cooking/baking and of course crafting....wha more could you ask for.

Dana, do you have any sunny spot around your home,,,you could plant a lavender plant in a large pot and that way you could move it around as need be to keep it in the full sun. Just a thought.

Marian, I just use a basic scone receipe and sprinkle in about 1/4 c. of dried lavender buds & mix it in. I also sprinkle just a few buds on top of the scone before baking.

Dana, do you infuse yuor lavender in you sugar by placeing the dried buds in the sugar, seal and store for 2 weeks and then strain & toss out the buds?

lavender hugz and happy smiles....

Speaking of lavender...I attended a Lavender Festival last week end! A neighboring farmer has fields and fields of it and 3 years ago started the festival. They make soaps with it, bake with it, they had demonstrations of uses for it and every type of craft they could think of. It was also a craft show..30 local crafters set up next to the lavender fields. Oh how wonderful it smelled! We had a great time..

I too am a big fan of lavender. I have been experimenting for three years now to determine what grows best up here in the wasteland of the Upper Peninsula...apparently we line right up parallel wise with Provence France! I only grow Munstead and have started with only 15 plants, but I plan to find more space and double that within the next two years I did my first cutting 2-days ago and am looking forward to harvesting again before the fall. I have an old wooden dryer stand (the kind that folds into itself) and it is loaded with sweet posies of bundled lavender! The house is filled with lavender scent. It has been raining the last two days so hopefully I can get out side to my picket fenced in lavender bed and harvets some more. The other day I left a huge flat basket of freshly picked lavender at my good friends house here in Menominee. She returned my basket with home-made honey-wheat bread and a jar of apple butter....

Katmom....show us some pics I would love to see your Grosso's!

If you would like to see my Lavender, check out my DUTCH blog. I have posted a few collages of my latest pictures. Will try to upload one here too, lol.

I have cut a lot yesterday, to dry etc. The lavender is growing very very well this year, even my 2 pink ones are doing great. I guess the weather has a lot to do with it. First we had quite a lot of rain and now it is hot! So they are thriving YAY!! Grace, thanks for the "recipe":)

lavender lemonade is my favorite, favorite, favorite drink! I make it every summer! Lavender butter cookies are yummy also. I don't have lavender in my garden yet, but went to visit a lovely lavender farm last summer Purple Adobe lavender farm in New Mexico. It was heavenly!

I've got 6 plants, 3 on the south side of the pump house are doing great, but the ones on the east side are not so well. I will have to find a spot to move them.

I am experimenting with a new (to me) type of L.Angustifolia-grosso aptly named, 'Melissa'.
It is a very light purple-almost white colored lavender. It smells every bit as wonderful as my 'Sharon Roberts" Grosso. But,I won't use the buds except inside sachets as the buds are not that pretty once dried.
Fun none the lest.
