...how much we can love our pets. Just read Jonni's post about her sweet cat dying. I still miss my Elvis. I don't know if he died or not, He "just " disappeared over 4 weeks ago. Only God knows what happened to him. He was such a sweet cat, cuddly and funny and naughty.

I never realized HOW much one can love a pet. I never had a pet before, not in my whole life. Mom was frantic of cats, almost Phobic sowe never had one. Also no dogs, mom didn't want dogs. We had a parakeet once but we were both very allergic to him so we had to take him back to the pet shop. That was the only pet I ever had. And when I came to live here I decided I wanted (needed) a pet to keep me company, to talk to and to cuddle once in a while. Decided on a cat, because they could be alone for a stretch of a time, and a dog needed too much attention, grooming etc. And if I ever were to find a job, I would feel too sad to leave a dog alone all day.

So entered Elvis, the sweetest kitten alive IMO. And now he is gone and I still miss him. And Pinky entered my home 3 weeks ago :) So sweet, so naughty, so not cuddly yet, lol. She doesn't want to sit on my lap and let me stroke her for a longer period. maybe that will change when she grows older and is not as jumpy and playful anymore.Maybe it will never change. I don't mind, I love her regardless.

But as I said, I never realized how much one can love a pet. It feels as if you have a little fur baby in the home. She needs attention, wants me to talk to her (i do anyway whether she likes it or not, lol) needs food and drink etc. In the evening she DOES cuddle up to me on the couch, just not on my lap. She lies besides me :)

And I can now SO understand the loss one feels when a pet dies or disappears! It is devastating!!!

many hugs toallwho ever lost a pet

I know what you mean, Marian. I was a lonely kid growing up and my pet cat was a huge part of my life. I didn't think of her as a "fur baby" though, more like an auntie or a tough older sister. After all, she had lived on her own and had a little of kittens when we adopted her (lol). We found her when I was 8, and she died shortly after I graduated from college. I realized after she was gone that I have mannerisms and gestures that I learned from the cat! How weird is that? My husband and I have a cat now, and he has changed the nature of our household. Life is different and better when it's not just us. Again though, we don't think of him as a child - more like a fuzzy roommate. He's a very independent adult. Maybe someday we'll get a kitten to raise.

I know exactly how you feel. My mom was never pet friendly. I think that is why I have so many now...LOL. Making up for lost time I suppose.

My Bella just had a litter of 2. Jasper and Violet (she is almost a lavender color). They are just starting to open their eyes and I can't wait until they want to play.

Losing a pet is hard. It's been awhile since we put Sasha down but I still find myself waiting for her to come when I call the dogs in. It just takes time.

Marian:
What a wonderful posting. Thanks. My cats and dog (furry children) make me smile, laugh, etc... every day. Give Pinky a hug.

Dutchy, I've found myself wondering lately about Elvis. I'm so sorry he hasn't returned. It's hard not knowing what has happened to your beloved pet. Last summer I had a stray cat decide to hang out in my back yard and I got quite attached to her. We were trying to get her and my dog to get along and then we would adopt her but she disappeared one day. I was beside myself for weeks not knowing what happened to her. I can't imagine how you must feel about Elvis. I know you loved that little kitty so much!

(((hugs)))

Marian, sorry, I think I missed something. I didn't know Elvis went missing. I am so sorry. We have a bunch of new babies, wish I could hop across the big pond and bring you one. I try not to get attached to the cats and dogs. Varmits and fast cars seem to keep their numbers under control. I don't dare single out just one for my pet. Something always happens to my favorite.

Amie that is so cute that you realized you picked up mannerisms and gestures from your cat. They do affect us greatly in so many ways. The best part of all is that science has proven our furry friends can lower our blood pressure just by petting them. Amazing isn't it? Dutchy hopefully your sweet Elvis wandered off and found himself a Priscilla and is raising little babies with a nice family. We had a cat wander off when my oldest son was just a tyke. I put an ad in the paper and several days later received a phone call from a lady telling me she was sure she'd found my cat. It was across town and I doubted she had but when I went to her house she had the most beautiful long haired orange and white cat I'd ever seen who was stretching out of her arms to get to me like I was his long lost mother. Well, needless to say he went home with me that day and became one of the most special cats I ever had. By the time my oldest son was in grade school that cat would follow us 8 blocks to school every day when I walked Eric there and then walk home with me again. Sometimes he acted more like a dog than a cat. Sadly he became ill with a sickness that now is treatable but was rather unheard of then. He had feline leukemia which eventually claimed his life but I'll never forget that cat. Christina you'll have so much fun with those kittens. Marly thank you for your kind remarks about my little brood of kitties from FebruaryViolet's posting. I forgot to mention Missy is also a rescue. And Teresa Sue, what a cute name for your new kitten :)

Don't give up on Elvis quite yet...our neighbors have a cat (Miss Mario) that just vanished one day. After about 6 monthes, they had pretty much given up on her coming home. Then one night (middle of the night), a meowing cat woke them up...yep, it was Miss Mario. That was about 8 years ago and she's still with them.
