Yummm!! We went out and picked lots of mulberries last night, at least a third of a 5 gallon bucket and today is jelly and syrup day. I also froze lots for pancakes/muffins later on. We used our favorite "picking" method of sheets under the trees/shaking the branches--the kids probably ate a quart apiece as well, but no tummyaches :)
A couple of days from now and we'll go out again and get more--yummmm! |

Oh, how I miss mulberries!!! My grandparents had a mulberry tree in their backyard and we'd sit under it and shuck corn and shell peas or sit around the kettle while Granddaddy fried catfish, and, of course, gather mulberries for jelly! Then some kind of blight got ahold of it and it had to be cut down. But I have many wonderful memories of that mulberry tree! I'd climb it's branches with a book and eat mulberries straight off the limb! Thank you, Sheila, for resurrecting those old memories for me!

I have about 14 pints of mulberries right now.....took them to farmers market but they didn't sell well; so I'm going to make them into pie and jelly. Anyone have some good recipes?

I have two trees that came up two years ago. I didn't know what they were, so took a branch to the local nursery and was told they were mulberry trees. The branches certainly would not hold a human, they are so small. My berries are extremely small. Is that natural. I takes forever just to get a teacup full and can't imagine getting even 2 gals. Is it because the trees are so young? |

Sharon - the berries on my trees have very little taste. I think their size and lack of tasteis probably because the trees are so young. I'm in hope that will change with time. |
