Hi everyone,
I am so excited and proud of myself. I made butter this morning! I used the buttermilk to make blueberry pancakes from scratch too. How yummy! It was so easy, I woke my husband up and made him eat pancakes fresh off the griddle, with the fresh butter. I read about making butter in Mary Janes Ideabook. Thanks Mary Jane!

Hi Connie,

Sounds so yummy! Your Dh is a lucky man.:) I've been thinking of trying flavored butters. Dh and I tried a couple of fruit flavored butters at a restaurant and really enjoyed them.

Isn't that fun Connie? I did it a couple weeks ago and couldn't believe how easy it was. Plus it tastes soooo good! You can add honey to it and other flavorings to make really luscious treats.

NOt nearly as easily, unless you have a separator. Some people love goat butter. I had goats for milk for years and didn't do butter. It takes a long long time for the milk to separate (it is naturally homoginized and cow's milk isn't) and I didn't have a separator. I would think the flavor wouldn't stay nice as long either.
Butter does freeze well, however. I make and freeze it all the time.

Something for fun Connie. I make mine in bigger batches cause I have a churn that attaches to my Sunbeam mixer. I seperate it little batches, adding honey to one, strawberry jam, or orange marmalade. Then the fun thing, out comes the silicon candy molds. I picked roses and leafs. Fill the molds with the butter and put in freezer for about five minutes so they firm up then unmold into a freezer bag or plastic container. They stay in the freezer forever and they are so cute when you set a butter rose on a piece of toast or biscuit. Not to mention what company says when you set a couple on a little butter pat next to their plate for their toast. I am always picking up butter pats off Ebay to add to my collection. Such a sweet little decoration for your table that makes you the hostess with the mostest.

Connie,

I just made some too! I bet it is wonderful with your homemade Blueberry Pancakes :)Exciting isn't it? I used my Kitchen-Aid with the whisk attachment. Now I am hooked! We buy raw cow's milk and for the past 2 weeks we have had almost a half gallon of cream. The butter is so good (especially on homemade bread :)

I just won the bid on this at e-bay. I thought it would be fun to use for the butter:)

We buy raw milk from a local farmer and I've make butter a few times with the cream skimmed off the top, but I find it pretty "wild / grassy" - is it just me??? Perhaps if I bought organic cream from the store it wouldn't taste so "wild?" But then, if I'm buying cream from the store, is it still cheaper to make your own? So many questions! :o) I really would like to continue making my own butter, I'm just having a hard time with the different taste that I'm getting. And yes, I'm getting all the buttermilk out of the butter before I'm storing it - I'm pretty anal about that. Hmmmm....any ideas? Do I just need to get used to "real" butter?
TIA!
