Hi all,

I didn't know where to post this, so I'm putting it here. I have been getting some strange mail lately (emails mostly). I just checked the little icons above my name, and found an XXX rated website is listed for my homepage (I don't have a homepage!) I strongly suggest you all check all those little icons, and you may be in for a surprise

Thanks for the warning Ce. If any of you need to change anything in your profile, click "profile" from the menu at the very top right-hand corner of all forum pages. It requires your username and password to enter, then you can make changes.

Cecelia and Sourjayne -
I never check people's profiles, but I did today for some reason. I wanted to get to the tea party section, so I took a quickie way of finding it. I clicked on Cecelia's profile knowing I would find the tea party section on her list of recent posts. While there, I checked the box that should have her photo in it, because I wanted to see her picture - and I got the XXX website!!!! I was very surprised! I even went and deleted all my cookies and stored files to make sure I got rid of the XXX site, not that it helps probably. Cecelia, I am glad you found this - I was going to email you and tell you what I saw.

By the way, what do you mean by little icons above your name? I want to check mine, but do not know what icons you mean. Thanks!

Eileen, look at your last post here (Oct. 18) next to the line that says "posted" there are some little boxes - one with papers & a face, then a paper and envelope, etc. Just put the cursor on the icon and a message will come on telling you what is in the icon; to view it just click the mouse and you'll see the info. I'm still learning this too! Same message for Jeannie

Thank you for the warning. This internet stuff can be scary sometimes, I'm wondering if there is a danger if you forget to log out of the system. Can someone break into your profile that way?

Note to everyone regarding my previous message:

It probably would be a good idea (at least it seems so to me, I don't have a degree in computer science!) that we should not have our last names listed on our profiles - esp. if you have the village, town or city listed on your profile and have a listed phone number in the book where you live (and by the way, the internet has all the listed phone numbers in the US!). I hate to be paranoid, but after seeing that x-rated site as my homepage, I'm being extra careful about the internet!

Good advice!

No homepage here that I could see--I didn't realize that my last name would appear on my profile (and I've been on the internet HOW long???), so I took care of that. Thanks!

I work in a computer store and would like to tell all of you to be very careful about how much information you post on line. Also if you do use the internet a lot you need to down load a spyware software program. You can go on line and find one to down load for free. If I can help anyone please let me know.

I have Webtv, as they filter out all that stuff. I can still search the web for info and post to groups like this, and send emails to friends, but lacking the ability to actually run programs and "compute". Never really wanted to balance my checkbook, etc on the web anyways. I did, unknowingly click on several of the msgs before I realized something was awry. Will let you know if anything "new" starts coming my way, but I doubt if it will, as Webtv is limited and filters well.

took off my last name too...scary times. We have pest patrol and a firewall from zonealarm. A freind set me up awhile back. I am clueless and didn't realize how many pests and stuff I had on my computer. I also learned how to dump cookies...which has sure speeded things up.

I dump cookies, too, and also delete the file that holds sites I have recently visited. When I deleted those the other day, thge process went on for over five minutes! I must remember to do that more often, because it does seem to hasten the navigation of my computer. Or else it is my imagination, like thinkg my car runs better after I fill it's tank!

Jeannie,
You are right on both counts! Computers do run better without the clutter and cars do run better on a full tank, something to do with the fuel injectors. I was told by the mechanic this past week after having to have the fuel pump replaced not to allow my car to go below 1/2 tank and It would last longer.Hmm?

Okay...who do we "report to" in regard to who may be responsible for these strange things? When did you first notice it again? I found a couple posts that look questionable...

If you're referring to the members countrybada**95 and countrygood95... I have already alerted Sarah to those postings. Annoying at best, and hopefully not more than that.

In the Barnyard Buddies category, under chickens and other animals..... those two made several annoying and mean spirited posts.

Though sorely tempted to inquire whether they had left the prefix of "stupid " out of their screen name I am proud of all of us for ignoring them and carrying on with our daily chats. Not sure but I think Sarah can block them from entering again if need be. Bramble
