Okay, I don't have the budget mix but anybody have a good biscuit recipe that's pretty simple? I have a family recipe I left at my mom's (an hour away) that is centuries old! I don't have it with me and it would probably take a pretty long time .....
Anyway, I did a search on the forum but couldn't find anything. I must be missing it! Please give good biscuit recipes, girls! lol.

The one I use is on the baking powder container - I have run across a few other recipes, like in Better Homes and Gardens magazine, but it seems to be so close to the same I just stick with the can. lol. |

There's one in this month's Mary Jane's Farm, biscuits made with cream of tartar, I'm making them tonight!

I don't know about the BP can but this is what I do for mine:
3 cups unbleached flour 2/3 cup butter 1 Tbsp baking powder 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp salt 1/3 cup sugar 2/3 cup buttermilk OR 2/3 cup sour milk (milk with 2 tsp vinegar added)
I make this in a food processor. Put flour, sugar, BP, Soda, salt in food processor (or bowl) and blend. Cut butter into small pieces and pulse until looks like course meal - leave some chunks but not larger than a pea. (cut in shortening with two knives or pastry blender if by hand). Add buttermilk (or sour milk) all at once and run processor until dough forms a ball. Pat out on lightly floured wax paper about 1/2" thick. Cut with cutter. Bake in preheated 400 oven 12 min. or until golden. Makes 1 dozen. These reheat well and the kids always ate them left over because the extra sugar makes them slightly sweet. I have no idea where this originated but I've been making them this way for more than 30 yrs.
