I'm not sure where to post this, but this is my favorite so here it goes. I'm really curious.... what do all of you wear on a day to day basis to work around your home/farm? We've been talking about how we're starting to wear aprons again, but what are you wearing UNDER those aprons?!? Do you wear dresses, jeans and shirts, jumpers, sweats, pj's (!)? And do you sew your own clothes, buy them off the rack, or go thrifting? Inquiring minds want to know!! |

My uniform is jeans & a tee shirt or hoodie. I guess that's left over from my high school/rock & roll days. LOL When I dress up I like girlie stuff, lots of vintage. I buy mostly from thrift stores, garage sales...I sew a few things. I try hard not to buy retail, just because it seems ridiculous when things are SO cheap at the thrift stores. People who work outside the home or have less "eclectic" style (LOL) than I do might not find what they need there. I have, on occassion, been known to teach Math in my bathrobe. :)

WELLLLLL I wear mostly blue jeans and lots of denium.I dress very casual most of the time. When I wear a dress I want it to my ankles and country looking. When I am working out in the barn or pasture I like to wear my sweats because they fit well into the top of my boots. And I can get them dirty and toss them in the washing machine and I still have my clean jeans.I love CARHART brand t- shirts (mens ). I hate wearing a bra so wear it very seldom around the house but i do put it on when I go down the road , LOL

Well right now being winter and I am in the house most of the time I wear a pair of really comfie yoga pants with a oversized tee-shirt with Sammy Kershaw's (love of my life) face on it and a pink sweat shirt over it to keep warm. I do change into something nicer in the evenings when my honey comes home from work. I love skirts and dresses, I decided to give up denim expect when I'm farmin. I love cardigans too. When I am farmin it's overalls or cut offs with a pair of red rubber boots or brown cowgirl boots. I love to tie scarves around my head or around my neck. I love collecting them. Abbasgurl do you really teach in bathrobes?

I wear either Jeans and a t-shirt and an apron with my white beat up Nikes, or bib overalls and a t-shirt with the same nikes...in summer switch birkenstocks for the nikes. When I get dressed up I like denim skirts and pretty tops, or simple dresses and cardigans. I don't own anything REALLY dressy or sparkly..I am not into sparkly. I wear very little makeup...and very little jewelry. I have an old blue jacket that I wear for chores when it is cold out and wouldn't be caught dead wearing it to town..it is covered in cow slobber and cat hair. I generally don't wear aprons to town, and rarely overalls either..I don't have any really nice ones right now..but I keep one pair of nice jeans and one pair of clean sneakers for town..and then will throw on a nicer t-shirt or pullover or one of a couple of my favorite short sleeved cotton button front shirts. I have been dressing this way forever..boring!!

I usually wear jeans and a comfy top. In hot weather I wear a loose fitting dress (we Wisconsinites never seem to get used to the 95 degree weather when its here. Even the cows pant!)I think often of wearing skirts more often but in the winter, going outside means wet hemlines and I just hate that feeling. I don't like anything tight, short or bright for my regular clothes. I often slop around the house in a a warm, knit nightie and my hubby's hunting socks when I'm having a down day ( I have fibromyalgia so I don't always feel so good).

Hahaha! "covered in cow slobber & cat hair", LOVE IT Jenny! And Shhhhh....I hate wearing a bra too Robin, but going down the road I strap that baby on. LOL! And yes Rose, I DO teach in my bathrobe-just one of the perks of homeschooling! I used to wear denim dresses A LOT, it was the official homeschool Mom uniform-or so you'd think if you'd see us all gathered together in one place! LOL My kids made me SWEAR to never put one on again! I say as long as YOU are comfy wear what you like best! Rhonda

I love to go without a bra too..but don't attempt it unless I am wearing overalls and staying HOME and even then if someone comes over I go put the puppy on!!! And I don't EVER wear shorts...just don't have the legs for it..my legs are very "linebackerish". Not a good look!

Since I work from home, I LOVE my sweats....a nice big t-shirt and right now...a huge SWEATER!! Gets mighty chilly here in Iowa. Lets hear it for NO BRAS!! Hate them....but if I'm headin' to town I have to put on the NICE jeans, a pretty top. I'm not frilly, but when I do dress up I do like the make-up,& the big earrings. For my 40th birthday I had a total hair makeover....color, cut..the works. Before that I still had the BIG 80's style hairdo....the more backcombing and hairspray the better. Now it's very stylish..and MUCH easier to work with..when I'm home..it's in a clip. LOL...I gotta say there have been MANY times I've run into town for a few things in my 'home' clothes...LOL I guess the older I get, the more I don't care. THIS all started when the young men at KMart started callin' me 'Mame'. Did I spell that right?LOL

Mostly around the house it's sweats or yoga pants in winter. If I go out it's jeans and a t-shirt or overalls. During the summer it's always tank tops (the kind with the built in bras are wonderful, as whoever invented the bra should be shot and was obviously a man ) and shorts. Shoes are NEVER more than my tennis shoes, birkenstocks, or flip flops. Rarely wear make-up and hair is usually in a braid or bun or combination of the two. Very plain and very simple!!! |

I work in a IT office so thru the week I wear, casual dress pants, kahki's etc and sweaters/blouses, I do have 2 pair of corduroy overalls that I wear thru the week. On Friday we can wear jeans, so I do. I even wear my bibs on Fridays sometimes!!
At home I wear, NO bra unless we have company. (whan I get home from work I ditch the shoes then the bra, ALWAYS) I wear Jeans or Sweats/yoga pants and t-shirts/sweatshirts.
For dressed up is a nice pair of jeans or black pants and a nice sweater/shirt. I can't remember the last time I wore a dress. I like dresses I just don't wear them much.

I'm too short for dresses...I look like a sack tied in the middle. I wish somebody would design a line of farm sweats and dress sweats. I'd be set!! I mostly wear sweats around the farm and buy them at the thrift shops. I have a habit of catching them on fencing and ripping holes in them or wearing the knees out in the garden and I admit to being a site to behold after working the farm all day. After my shower I like to put on the lotion, etc. and feel clean...so I have my stash of dressier sweats! Oh and the guy who invented the bra...Joseph Tittslinger. I think I'll just leave it at that. I have two pairs of jeans, and I wear them everyday. My top is negotiable. Usually something I've made, sometimes from a thrift store. If its chilly (and believe me, it gets bloody cold in the desert) I throw on a wooly sweater. I have not bought anything at a retail store since.. well, I can't remember. Probably 2-3 years.

My stuff is mostly all second hand too, except usually overalls...I always buy them new..but make them last years and years. I did my last pair "handed down to me" from a relative who bought them and they didn't fit her right...and they are my favorites now. There are some great thrift stores that are really big up in Provo and further north..so I try to go now and then. I wear things for years though..not a fashion statement for sure. When I DO get something new it generally is a t-shirt and I wear it until it is worn out!! I do have a thing about nice socks though. I wear hand knit ones or good ones...I guess what I save on the rest I spend on socks...I do like them!!

Most warm days you'll find me in jeans and a t-shirt, hair in a ponytail.
I work from home, since it's been chilly I've been wearing yoga pants (easier to sit with your legs curled under you in front of the computers in those!), long sleeve shirt and my hideous, long, grey, hooded wool sweater. Oh, and no bra. Lol!!!
Out and about, I tend to look trendy. I usually go in jeans or khakis, a button-down shirt, some cool heeled shoes, and a blazer - and some beaded jewelry my friend makes. I wouldn't have such a wardrobe if it were not for another friend who is a definite fashion fanatic and clothes horse - every few months she goes through her closet and hands me a giant shopping bag full of clothes in case I want them! I've gotten two pairs of heels, yoga pants, some blouses, skirts, pants, long sleeve shirts and nice sweaters recently. :) |

Since my job is teaching gymnastics, I usually have to wear sweatpants/yoga pants and t-shirt/sweatshirt. Not that I am complaining, but sometimes I like to "dress up" (jeans and a nice shirt or "tighter" fitting t-shirt than regular). Occasionally I will get really dressed up but that is mainly special occasions. For example, my boyfriend got tickets to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for me for Christmas so when we go to that, I will wear a dress and probably curl my hair. No jewelry for me. I never liked wearing any...and I mean ANY!!
I so wish I could do without the bra. I am (ahem) a bit larger chested, which makes no sense because I am not bigger anywhere else and no one in my family has this size! So I tend to wear a bra from the minute I leave my bed to the time I go to sleep. Otherwise I feel them pulling and it just doesn't feel too nice. (I'm not HUGE up there by the way. Just not average) |

i tend to have 'seasonal' costumes/uniforms! this winter it has been long skirts and sweaters .. with tights and leg warmers .. usually worn with my 'angel clogs' or different kinds of boots .. i have lots of boots! love 'em!
my 'jewels' this winter have been 'native american made' from our yearly rendezvous! i have a coytote head purse .. a HUGE turtle shell purse .. rabbit fur purse .. and fun, funky jewelry made by civil war re-enactors and native americans. i do have a dear little 'log cabin' necklace that my daughter gave to me that i often wear too!

I also like to go braless. Last year I decided I didn't like bras anymore and went quite some time without one! I spent last summer as a couselor at a girl scout camp so my usual was a bathing suit, shorts, rain boots(for creek stompin'!), ripped and stained clothes, a lot of dirt, and unshaven legs! It was great! Living outdoors with kids, nobody cares what you look like! I'll be starting an internship at an organic farm in a few weeks so there's another job where I can be comfy, not wear makeup, and play in the dirt! If I do dress up, it's nice jeans and a nice shirt. I do like skirts, too, but they have to be comfy! I've given up on heels. They hurt way too much! And I rarely wear makeup. Don't see the point really. I've just discoverd the wonders of thrifting! So much good stuff for so cheap! Oh, and I've had my gym shoes forever! I tried getting new ones, but I just came back to my old ones! I do think I should get a new pair since you can see my socks through 'em! You can't say I don't use thing til I wear 'em out!
Much love, Laura |

Well it's great we're a bunch of free livin braless ladies here!!! Well besides ditching the bra as soon as I get home from work. I wear mostly jeans and corduroys, fitted t-shirts, button up shirts, sweaters in the winter and I try to wear shirts when it's warm but I tend to be a pants person. I want to wear shirts but it doesn't seem to always happen. I always wear striped socks and either dansko clogs or converse sneekers. And I love scarves!

I am a free spirit as well...I free my self of the bra constraints as soon as I get home. Socks are the second to go. I prefer to be bra less and sockless, other than that I wear what ever....I have some favorite shirts that i wear in the summer for working outside...I recently had to throw away my favorite pair of jeans...they were well worn and beyond repair, since everyone could see my derrière...lol. i will have to dress nicley for my job, but thankfully we hava nice consigment shop nearby. Work attire until then is hospital issued scrubs..which are nice for gardening and lounging as well....I love to wear vintage jewelry, and scarves. And my dansko's are my favorite shoes. I can't believe all that I put those things through and they still look nice and are so comfortable......

I've loved reading this thread! Here's my contribution.
To work (I'm a teacher), I wear long-ish skirts and sweaters -- usually the kind that are straight/loose in the body and only come down to just past the waist band. Since I'm short, they're about the only type that fit well. I wear tights or socks and clogs almost daily.
In the evenings, I put on either flannel pajama pants or sweat pants and a sweatshirt or t-shirt.
If I'm going to the grocery store or things like that, I wear cordoroy pants or jeans and a sweater (same type as to school) or a pull-over top that's loose.
I hate wearing a bra, but usually do until bedtime because we get teen-age friends of my kids over all the time and I feel a bit more presentable with a bra on.

Gosh, I have to change clothes a gazillion times a day! Morning chores I put on sweats with a turtleneck, and a coat that looks like what Aunt Jenny describes, only mine's covered with horse slobber, bedding dust, and wormer. When I come back in, I often change into jeans to go to town. If I go to the barn where I'm boarding out, Ihave to change to breeches. I change back into jeans when I come home, and change into sweats when I go out for evening chores. Lots of polar fleece, too.
It's similar in summer, but I go directly to jeans and polo shirts, no sweats. Change to breeches to ride. Always always wearing Ariats on my feet. Hair is kept out of the way, and hopefully some way that a riding helmet won't bother.
I get so sick of changing clothes, but I can't do much about it.

I always have a pair of filthy overalls hanging on the back of my bedroom door for changing into when I need to..for chores or gardening. If I don't do that I stain my jeans up real quick and I only keep a couple pairs of them... I feel like I change clothes more than I want to...I am going to town in my best overalls and favorite red shirt today..the heck with it. I will be clean.

I change four or more times a day! I walk the dogs in the morning in jeans and a t-shirt, sweater and boots, then I "outfit" for work in my "city girl" clothes (generally slacks or a knee length skirt with an oxford shirt and sweater vest). Then when I get home, it's back into the jeans and boots for whatever "after-work activity" we have planned, then my sheep pj's for bed. We really want sheep, so people keep giving me sheep pj's! I have three pair!

It is so fun to read what everyone is wearing and not wearing-LOL! :) Me, I'm a jeans and T-shirt gal. I've got my old bluejeans for home, good bluejeans for out and about, and colored jeans for at work. The only skirt I own is long and guess what-blue jean. I also love blue jean shirts over t-shirts-I find those at the thirf store-long sleeve, short sleeve, sleeveless. At home, I wear these really old work boots or tennis shoes. And, I have this really great men's fleece lined blue plaid shirt with pockets that I even run to the store in. Love it! In summer, I'm in my flip flops, t-shirt, or button down cotton blouse, and jean shorts when at home. I love cotton, because I can turn everything into rags when I stain or wear stuff out and I love thriftstore finds-they are already so comfy! I don't wear heals or much jewelery and minimal make-up. My dress shoes are loafers. That's pretty much it!
Comfy dressing for sure!
