Lately I've been feeling like the world is a little heavier than usual and whatever spark I have is just a little sizzle somewhere inside. When the blues strike, what helps you get back on the sunny side?

LIBBIE I'am sure you will be fine, look at all the ideas you are searching out, and things you want to do and are looking forward to. Did I read on a post someplace that you are going to have a baby, well talk about being tired and a little over done on some days, just keep going forward and you will come out just fine. NANCY JO

Thanks, Nancy - I know that some days (or even a few of them in a row!) are just cloudy. Looking forward and researching projects does help. Thank you for the kind words - sometimes that can be all it takes, no?

Sometimes I search out my "sunniest" friend and that brings me right up. I have a couple people who can tend to bring me down and I avoid them when I am having a "cloudy" day anyhow. And I treat myself to new fabric..that ALWAYS improves my mood..heehee

hey sweet libbie ... if you can't seem to shake the blues and it goes on longer than you think it should ... maybe if you saw a good family doctor he or she could give you a check-up and do some tests to make sure all 'yer parts' is workin' good. sometimes .. it's something simple that a good talking it out .. or maybe even a small change in lifestyle .. OR .. yep! a good 'ole pill might help with .. if it is hormones or chemicals jus' raging a little bit.
when you are feeling blue .. concentrate on the 'good stuff' .. might help to start a 'gratitude journal' .. just sit and write what you are grateful for .. don't just stop with a list .. write it all down.
talk to someone you love and trust a lot in your family .. or a friend. ask them if they have seen you be 'too down .. too long' .. and if so .. make an appointment with your doc.
know that everyone has good moments and bad moments .. but honestly .. make sure you know whether it's just temporary and passing .. or if you need to ask for a little help in pulling you back up to your sunshiney self!
all your friends are here for you .. if you ever feel the need to jus' talk and can't find someone nearby .. give me a call .. i'll listen and i'll chatter your ear off too! xo, frannie

Hey Libbie...I sure do hope you feel better.
Sometimes I just go ahead and give into it for a day.....lay on the sofa, watch movies, eat chocolate.... and then just get up and get doing something.
I'm with Jenny....new fabric or something crafty and new always helps me....gives me a new project....like I need one!! I think it's the rush of feel good chemicals from the shopping and then the flow of creativity of what to do with the item.
Blessings Catherine

Libbie I know how you feel. I was really bummed about a month ago so my honey suggested that I do something that I always wanted to do but never got around to. So now twice a month I go to dance classes and I am just hooked. If you could do anything no matter if it's unrealistic in yuor mind try it. Also I keep this book around http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0761139834/sr=8-1/qid=1139843511/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-7875025-9370325?%5Fencoding=UTF8 its good for a thousand and one laughs. It was the best $10 I ever spent. I hope that spring comes soon and blows your blues away.
Remember what you now have was once among the things only hoped for. |

All of these suggestions are so good and helpful - it's nice to know that everyone needs a little "picker-upper" every now and then. I'm sure that this is nothing more serious than a couple of down days - things are looking up this morning - I decided to just "routine" my way through it and do what has to be done, as well as indulging in a healthy dose of chocolate mocha ice cream and a long bath AND an early bedtime. I think I was just feeling overwhelmed by the amount of work on this farm and the prospect of a new baby in the middle of summer...and the "fact" that I was feeling like nobody would understand how tired I was...you know the drill..Then this morning, when I woke up, I was pretty rested, the sun was up, and I heard this little voice from the room next to mine saying, "Mommy, love, come and get me!" and it made me smile. That little start to the day I think is enough for me to get feeling on my way to my regular busy, energetic, optimistic self. AND, I think I'll try to make myself a "maternity apron;" I thought I read here somewhere that someone had done that. THANK YOU!!!!
XOXO, Libbie

I totally agree with Aunt Jenny -- fabric is the key to anything that ails you! I've been blue a lot lately too but know that it is a seasonal thing. We had over 30 days without any sun and that is hard for me. I just make myself work on a project or get out of the house if possible. Just a change of scenery helps sometimes. But fabric definitely helps! LOL!

Here's some ideas:
stroll through some antique/junk stores and if something catches your fancy & you can afford it, buy it
pick up a favorite magazine or book and read
put on a favorite CD and lay down and let the music wash over you
play with your dog; if you don't have one, go to the pound and get one :)
write some letters to dear friends or family you don't see often
journal
do something artistic -- sketch, scrapbook, quilt, etc.
call a friend and invite them out or over
That's all I can think of right now. I hope you're feeling better soon.

I go to this site and listen to the llama song. It's so utterly silly, it always makes me smile.

I spent a year feeling semi depressed and I didn't even realize it. I just noticed that I wasn't doing the usual things that I love, like listening to music, reading, decorating my house and cooking(I still cooked but only because I had to). Another thing I like to do for myself is craft. I make all my own greeting cards.
Is there anything creative that you love to do? You might need to push yourself back into doing it but I find it really helps to get involved again, kwim? When I am NOT being creative I feel kinda empty. In other words I am saying to make sure and take time for yourself. Constant giving of ourselves to others does take it's toll. |

Libbie - we all fight the "blues" sometimes and I always wonder why? Why am I sad? I am not homeless. I am not cold and hungry. I am not unloved. I am not fighting cancer. But that does not always help, huh?
What helps is trying to bring ourselves back to focus each time the blues hit. I smell my granddaughter's hair and hug her. I put on my favorite soft nightgown and curl up and read in soft lamplight. I look around my home and thank God it is safe and warm. So hard to do sometimes, and yet it makes me feel, okay, I can go forward and be positive.
I pray the same for you girl! My daughter is due on March 20, and I have watched her fight the blues too. She has a 3 year old to care for, too. I try to take her brownies and wash her dishes, and just be there.
If I was there, I would do the same for you!

Hi Libbie, I'm fairly new so I may not have it all down. Are you expecting this summer? I understand. we bought our place 2 plus years ago and it needed just everything. I was pg with #4 and 3 others 10,7 and 1. You have to just do the necessities and rest when you can. You'll get through it of course and take as much time for yourself as you can. Sometimes I feel selfish but I have nothing left and just have to be alone to dream, think, do a necessity and then I feel better. Looking forward to getting to know you better. Take Care... |

I just printed out this thread and am going to keep it in the back of my Bible. Just reading the various posts picked me up, and I wasn't even feeling low. I want these to have on hand the next time I'm feeling a bit down.

You ladies are the BEST. I'm keeping a "blue book" of these ideas to look in on when I need a lift. Thank you so much - I am feeling quite a bit sparkier lately.
I've thought about why I've had the blues lately - I really have all that I need and more, and I am struggling with nothing more than your average person, I don't believe, and I do find that focusing on the simple, good things that I have is tending to pick me up.
I'm due mid-July - I have one other little one to look after - the light-of-my-life 2 1/2 yr old. He's REALLY active, and a super-sweetheart. In fact, he just came up to me and said, "Mama, I want to kiss you. You are nice. And I want some milk." Now, how could I be blue tonight with that?!
XOXO, Libbie
