I read the Jean M Auel Books and they always make me want to rush out and start gathering plants that are mentioned in her books- but I wonder how authentic the remedies are?

So for anyone who has read the Earth's Children series (Clan of the Cave Bear ect) and who knows herb lore: How accurate is Ms. Auel?

I have read all but the last book in her series and was told that she researched everything before printing books.

That is good to know- I always want to make the tea that she talks about in COCB (Clan of the Cave Bear) in the spring. The Clan used it to stir the blood and basically get their bodies ready for Spring activity. I want to check the ingredients out because I have an idea the probably stimulated the thyroid and the metabolism which would be very wonderful for me! I think I also remember a mention of sasafras to thin the blood for spring too..

I love her books too! I hear she is coming out with another soon. I too heard that she researchs everything, that is why it takes her so long to come out with her books. Time to start rereading the series in preparation for the new one, so this would be a good time to try and compare. I'll try to post my finds.

Oh I can't wait! I have read her books since, well I must admit I first read them when I was way too young- but they seemed interesting and they were on the book shelf...oh well! I love them!

I love her books, and even bought her last one at an airport store. I checked a few of the herbs with Jethro Kloss's Back to Eden and the uses she cited were accurate. I read that she takes as long as seven years to research her infromation for a book. The series is one I read every winter or so.

I too need to re-read them if another is coming out. I love how real all the characters come across as well. It really makes you think about that time and the struggles early man had.

COOL!

Good to know another book will be out.

I have read each of these about 3 times and loved every one.

Perhaps She is why I started to have an interest in wild and medicinal herbs. That and another really old book i still read called My Side of the Mountain"

It was made into a really cheesy movie, but the book was good

I just re-read the whole series. I am so looking forward to "The Land of Painted Caves". I just read an interview with Jean M. Auel and even though TLoPC is being billed as the final book, Mrs. Auel says she feels like there is another book in her about Ayla. I am thrilled. I always hate to see a favorite series end. Saying goodbye to your favorite characters is just so depressing.
