ok, so I've been waiting for DH to install a new faucet and change the drains under our kitchen sink for a year. The walls under the sink cabinet were rotten and smelled bad because of all the times the plumbing leaked over the years. I had had enough. I was on a mission now to fix all that stuff if it took the rest of my life!Friday after work I drove to Lowe's and bought a new faucet set. It is beautiful and has porcelain handles and a tall neck so I can get a five gallon bucket under it. Yesterday at 10:00 am, I took the access door off the front of the sink cabinet to turn off the main water supply. Then I tore out the moldy drywall and wet insulation and tore up the floor to the cabinet. This left a big gaping hole to the cellar under the house. I then cut 3 pieces of metal flashing to attach to the side and back walls of the cabinet, so any future water leaks wouldn't rot any wood and extended the flashing below the subfloor to make it impossible for mice to chew into the cabinet space ever again. I then built a new floor in the cabinet, carefully making holes in it to accomodate the main water line and drain line. I reinstalled the new faucet set, put together the drain lines (with help from DH), turned on the water and VOILA!!! It was 8:00 pm last night when I cleaned up my mess and put my tools away (yes, I have a set of my own tools). Today I'm making a new access panel door to the sink that is made from bits and pieces of decorative old door panels. I'm just so proud of myself, I can hardly stand it. And my husband thought I did VERY well! He's a contractor so imagine what kinda scrutiny was there. He just never has time to do work for me!..lol...

Good for you. Sounds like you did an amazing job. I hope you DH said he was proud of you.

Excellent! There is nothing more rewarding than fixing a big mess and fixing it well! I used to be able to fix soe things years ago, but I'm pretty bad at wielding anything but a needle and thread these days.

Totally awesome you are girl, you've made us farmgirl sisters proud! You may have even encouraged me to give a project like that a try; I have not had a shower in my bath for three years now, I have been comtemplating trying it myself!

Sue you should go for fixing the shower. My DD and I replaced the hot water heater in our attic last year while my husband was in Russia. It makes you feel great to do something like that.

Way to go!!You should be proud of yourself...I always say be thankful your DH is not a plummer or a landlord...My dad took our toilet one day when one of his renters broke their's....We had one downstairs that we could use but mom was none to happy about it...He replaced it the next day but it still is nice to remember it...

Good for you!! You should be very proud of yourself. Gives such a nice feeling of satisfaction to know you can do it yourself doesn't it? You may be tackling more things hubby puts off!

Big mistake, to underestimate not only a woman, but a farm girl to boot! I am tickled pink for you, Debbie! Now, I'm thinking seriously of taking DH's 'HoneyDo' list back from him and do it myself. That is, if the blasted list hasn't disintegrated from lack of use!!!!!!

Thank you all so much for the praise....I sat with a cup of coffee last night and decided I'm going to tackle the renovation of our bathroom/laundry room by myself! I haven't had a sink in my bathroom for 12 years! I'm afraid of the electric....but I know I can find a book/take a class and learn!
All these projects wouldn't be such a big deal but our house is over 150 years old and time is starting to take it's toll. Our home is one of my best friends, so I need to take care of her, even if hubby doesn't have time to. Stand back DH, you've unleashed a demon woman!
