I finally heard the new rooster crow today. It was so cute. He stretched so high and let out the funniest crow I've ever heard. I was wondering about the boy. I've seen him on the hens so I knew he was a rooster but never heard him crow. I was out in the garden when he let loose. I sure miss that sound after losing Russell Crowe.
Russell Crowe...that is hilarious. That is the first time I have read of your former rooster (sorry for his loss)......what have you named this one? Jack Crow? Crow Bar? :)
Haha! I have not found a name for this one. I do have maybe 4 of Russell Crowe's offspring. I'm waiting to see. I had 5 of his hatch and they are about 6-7 weeks old now. Looks like there might just be 1 little hen and the rest roos. So I will be keeping one of the roos to take his place. I don't know what I will do with this new rooster yet but I know I don't want 2. I have the little Buff roo, too. But will put them out back soon.
How old is he? I was just wondering when I can expect my buff to start crowing. There is nothing quite like waking up to a rooster crowing. It has been awhile since we have had a rooster.
I would say he's about 6 or 7 months old. Sometimes they crow earlier than that and especially when there are more than one. But 1 by their self has no one to copy and it just happens. Then there is lots of practice crows til they get it right.
I had 5 Easter chicks that all turned out to be roosters. Boy, did they have some crowing contests. And all day, too. One would crow then another then they'd all get going. Thay all ended up in the freezer.
There was one like that out here at the Ranch when I worked out here before Nora was born. Oh man! You couldn't sleep with the window open because he would crow at around 3 am every day. I did NOT need to get up at 3am!
