My veggie gardens are completely covered in weeds! I get so frustrated! I don't have time to weed every day all day long, so they have become covered in like little grass-like weeds and others. Looks like a carpet. I haven't even put all the seeds/plants in yet! Just about half. Very frustrating!

Tell me about it! I get all the weeds out then plant something and before my seeds sprout, the weeds are comming up. I fight weeds all the time.

No doubt. I am starting to identify them to see if we can eat them! Compost is HEAPING. We had a huge rain and ruined lots of hay so we are collecting straw for mulching pathways to minmize some of it. When we have guest I just say, "this is organic farming. . . weedy".

Best,

The weeds are thriving here as well. It has been a very wet spring and along with the perennials and grass, the weeds have really taken off. My garlic mustard is doing particularly well, lucky me!

Cover your weeds with up to ten sheets of newspaper and then put bark mulch or some type of compost over. The weeds die because they have no oxygen, the newspaper disappears into the soil and the bark mulch or compost is great for next year. If you use bark mulch make sure it isn't treated.I do this before I plant but you can do it after because I do this in between my rows of potatoes after the plants come up. It works like a charm. Takes effort at the start but worth it.

Give thanks to yourself everyday for all the wonderful things you do!

Heide, I'm glad there's someone else like me. That's what I tell people. I also say that most of the weeds are actually good for the plants because some bugs like them better so I leave them. Some of the bigger tree-like weeds also are good for shade and keep plants like squash and zuccini from wilting in the heat of the day. So there are some good points to those nasty obnoxious weeds.

But I know what it's like to have the grass come back up faster than the poor little seeds you worked so hard to plant. Very frustrating indeed. You could just mow down the rows for pathes, too.

And I did read an article about pigweed. I hate that stuff, but it is edible, the leaves are when they are small. They put them in salad. Who would even know?

So Sheila, put those weeds to good use. Eat them!

Kris
