Just wanted to share with you all how a severe winter brought me lilly of the valley, verbetum?(looks similar to hydrangea), and lots of violets this spring here in Massachusetts. I am happy. My tulips on the other hand didaverage---I didn't see hardly any of the new ones I planted in the fall. The clematis and roses are doing well also
My first vegetable garden that I have planted this spring seems a bit slow...but maybe I am just impatient.
How about you? How does your garden grow this year??

Hey Beverly. My garden is slow this year, too. Sounds like your flowers did great. I planted 3 clematis on an old fence in the middle of the yard. Last year I thought they were all dead but this spring thay all came back up. 2 got eaten by some escapee goats but the 3rd has the most beautiful purple blooms now. And the other 2 are slowly regrowing. I am thrilled. Can't wait for them to start climbing all over the fence.
I don't think you are impatient. With all the rain we've had lately everywhere, all the gardens are slow. It's rained here all weekend but should be nice the rest of the week. SO I can't wait to see all my new stuff coming up now. It's so exiting! I hope yours takes off soon.

My perennials, trees, and shrubs loved the long, cold winter we had. They are even happier with the rainy, cool, sometimes warm spring we are currently experiencing. Everything is so green & lush, I sure hope it looks that way in July!

I was thinking the same thing, Beverly. It's been really lush and beautiful around here this Spring. Luckily, we haven't had a few days of wet then humidity, but it is on its way (well, it's June, to be fair :))...
All of my perennials seem to just be thriving. I've planted a few annual seeds so we will see. I'm so excited though, about my "outhouse Hollyhocks". They are about 13 hands high and they haven't even bloomed yet! They do have sprouts, so I can't wait to see what color they are. They're almost completely taking over the rain barrel...last year, I didn't even think they came up!

Our garden is just going great. The heavy snow we got this last winter really made everything go crazy. I have hearty geraniums that never did much, they are huge. My spanish lavendar is twice its size, the roses haven't bloomed yet due to the rain we have been having, but tons of buds. The clematis that I have is growing wonderfully. With all of that the weeds are also out in force, spent much of my weekend weeding and didn't even make a dent.

I know the feeling Anne, I got so many weeds---I am tackling them a little every day.
The only thing that did not have that great of a showing were my tulips----I thought I had a lot more. But everything else..even my lilly of the valley did GREAT.

| Garden is doing wonderful here too. I planted bunny veggies on the spot where my rabbitry burned down in Feb, as a memorial. and wow are they coming on strong. must be the ash and rabbit poop combo. clover is really tall too and the rye is seeding all ready. Time to put the bunnies and mini horses on the front "lawn" to get it mowed. We dont plant regular grass, just the pasture and meadow grasses. Looks prety and helps with feed costs. we live in the forest with just a bit of clearing, so a lawn mover engine just sounds wrong here, we try to keep quiet as possible so we can hear the little forest sounds. |

Oh what I would give to have my garden going in full swing, but we have had back to back harsh winters and i lost 4 fruit trees, quite a few lavender plants and so far my tomatos & Bell Peppers are struggling,,, but on the brite side my blue berries & strawberries are doing well. I just keep plugging along and planting in hopes that maybe next Winter will not be so harsh and we will actually get a Spring.
Lorraine, sounds like you live in a lovely area.
Beverly, when you get finished weedin' come on over to our neck of the woods, weeds seem to be the one thing that is healthy around here! or should i say, "grows like a weed" lololol!
