I have a two fold problem, First, my 15 year old daughter has had a bad reaction to insect bites since she was born. She swells up terribly and a simple mosquito or flea bite will be scratched open and become infected. Because of the kind of skin my daughter and I have, we tend to scar badly. We are caucasian with thick collegen filled skin. A simple cut from shaving our legs will result in a permant brown scars and as a result her legs are now filled with brown healed scars so bad the school nurse and school social worker actually called me about it. I have taken her to many doctors who have explained that in every family there is one person whos chemical make-up attracks bites. My girlfreind has suggested I give my daughter Yeast tablets to repell the fleas. The second part of my problem is my new puppy. She is only 10 weeks old and I have already started her on the flea preventative. It stops the fleas from biting her but some still jump on her when she's outside and she carries them into the house and they jump on my daughter. We are an animal loving house and between the two dogs and three cats and the pest control contract I have, I spend about $90.00 a month on this problem and still may poor daughters legs are so marked up she refusses to wear shorts or to dress out for gym. I feel so bad for her. Does anyone have any natural remedies for fleas (for both my daughter and my animals). I'm at the end of my rope. HELP!
I sympathize with your situation. My dog use to bring fleas into the house until i started giving him Brewer's Yeast every night with his food. But the tablets don't work--it has to be powdered yeast, and the best quality you can buy. the fleas can smell it and stay away. I also saw something today that you can hang from your dog's collar that electronically repels fleas. I don't know if it works but seems worth a try. Has your daughter seen a dermatologist? There are lotions that can help with the scarring. I hope you find a solution that works for you and your daughter. Cindy
I to have had the this same problem all of my life and I'm a retired dog groomer! I have not found anything that you could take to help the problem. What I have found that works is to spray your legs lightly first thing in the morning with off or Skin So Soft mosquito spray to keep the bugs off of your daughter. Dog fleas are the little brown ones that go from dog to dog or cat to cat. Grass fleas are the ones that bite! They are really tiny and hop. These can come into your home on animals or dogs but cats that go in and out are usually the cause for bringing in fleas from my experience. They can also come in on humans too. I usually up my vitamin E for skin as well. You need to treat both cat and dog. I use BioSpot which is applied to the back of my dogs - it's like Frontline but you can wash it off if need be. The dogs get along just fine with it. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the comments and help. I did take my puppy to the vet on Friday and $123.05 later, I think we have the answer. He gave both my dogs a pill named Confortis, I think it is a new medication. A beef flavor chewable that kills 100% of fleas within four hours and last for a month. He also sold me a spray bottle of Frontline which I am to spray on my inside/outside cats along with the spraying and vacuming in the house. The Confortis worked wonderfully, all the fleas were gone by the morning and have not yet returned. Anyone with a flea problem should consider Confortis. Is about $1.00 more than the applied brand named stuff but well worth it as it really seems to work.
