Thank you all!
Allee, I can't wait to see pictures of your girl. I saw a advertisment in my arabian mag of the one of the stallions at the farm she is at and he is gorgeous. I hope one day to have a stallion of my own but it is a lot of work and you have to have the right one. I have a little colt that was born this year and I really like how he is turning out. Maybe he will be the one. Will get a photo of him to share when I get back home.

Jennifer- Did you see Safar or Infinite? Infinite is Tala's sire. He is super gorgeous. We jokingly call him Fabio because his mane and tail are just unreal. That boy really likes to grow his mane and tail! He is super sweet too.

The first time I went to the ranch was a breeding day for Safar and oh my! He was so beautiful! My heart about stopped. I was in love instantly. He's a perfect gentleman, but it sure is something to see a stallion showing off for his lady-love. Safar is Tala's grand sire. So I am happy to be getting the best of both of the "boys".

Yes, stallions are a lot of work. They also demand a lot of respect. I really hope that Tala produces fillys for a few years. :D I know I can handle a colt and I am sure I can handle a stallion- especially one that I raise, but I want to get a few more years of experience under my belt. But it looks like we won't be breeding Tala next year. I would like to give her at least another year more.

What age do you normally breed your maiden mares?

Thank you Sharon!

Allee, I believe it was Sahar! It was only a head shot but he was beautiful. Don't we all want fillies?? Ha! One year we had 3 foals coming and ended up with 3 colts. All turned out to be geldings. I cryed. But then God blessed me with 2 fillies the next year and 1 filly the following year after that. This year we had 2 fillies and a colt.
As far as breeding a maiden mare I have one that is 4 yrs old and I have put off breeding her so far. I think that I would like to have my mares to be proven performance horses before I breed them. That way I have something to market with other than the sire. I think the mare contributes alot to the foal. My mare Party Favor had her first baby at 11 (not by my choice) and last year she won Reg 9 SHIH Champ mare and I can use that to market her filly.
How old is your girl?

Hi Jennifer-

Safar is the black, and Infinite is the grey.

It was the Black. I love black. That is the only color I don't have. I bred two of my mares to a black and still got grey. Ugh!

Will keep that in mind for next year. I am only breeding Alicia this year and to a Friesian stallion.

Thanks for the company on my road trip.

No problem! Nancy says on her website that all of Safar's foals have turned out either black or light chesnut often with chesnut flaxen.
