My DH of 3+ years helped me paint my living room and kitchen this week-end I told him I hadn't painted those in 10 years. He could not believe I didn't paint behind the refrigator or the stove. Thank God he didn't do the bathroom. I didn't paint behind the mirror either. So I was wondering am I the only one? No one ever noticed. Do you paint everything? Even what you know will not be seen? Why?

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

this is always a bone of contention between dh and I, only I'm the painter, he's the one who doesn't paint everywhere. I used to be a professional wallpaper hanger and had to always do a complete job, so it drives me crazy when he doesn't.

Well, I like painting- So I probably would, unless I was just putting on a new coat of the same color- then I would probably skip the refrigerator and stove area. However I think I would always paint behind the mirror. You never know when you might want to change it or a guest might bump it.

I paint behind everything that can be moved. I have a huge entertainment center that took 6 men to move so I will be honest here and say I only paint as far behind it as I can reach. Behind the fridg or stove - yes because it's easy to clean there in between paint jobs.

I did move the stove and fridge and cleaned behind it and under it but I just didn't paint the whole area. My DH painted every thing. I guess I will just have to keep him around.

Wow, I didn't know you could skip those parts! I think I like your DH's way of thinking. But I don't know how I would get close to the edges of the fridge and stove without smearing paint all over them. Of course, I don't really know how to unhook the gas to pull the stove out from the wall either...

I did notice that whoever last painted our bathroom left an unpainted square behind the toilet tank. I don't see any way to avoid that.

I have a huge, almost full wall entertainment canter in tmy living room. It weighs a ton and I am thinking about painting just far enough behind it so it looks done.
Won't that surprise the next people who live here.

Well, being a realtor and the wife of a part-time builder/house-flipper, I always paint behind the stove, fridge, mirrors, toilets, etc. Alee makes a good point about painting behind mirrors because if you do swap them or it gets broken (yikes!), you can never touch-up well enough that it's not noticeable and end up having to repaint the whole room. And paint helps to protect the wall behind the stove and fridge, helping to keep odors from absorbing into the sheetrock. The inside of cabinets, though, eh, not so much!

Everything in a room gets taken off or is removed

A thorough paint job is a complete job well done

And the type of paint makes a difference

don't skimp or go for the cheap

Yes, I paint behind the stove and fridge. I am obsessive compulsive about stuff like that. It would drive me nuts if I didn't. But, I gotta tell you, we have a huge bookcase in our den that is absolutely loaded with books, and I have suggested that we just carpet up to the bookcase and not move it. So far he hasn't gone for that idea.I think it's a real good idea!!

Having my own painting business for years, I always painted all spaces. They have small rollers that will fit behind tight spaces, like toilets. Many homes I painted in had lots of greasy smelling places in kitchens so I always painted everything. Do it right the first time! I have to admit I seldom took down the large heavy mirrors in bathrooms. Rehanging items can run you into lots of problems.

The next time we paint it will all have to come out anyway. Major kitchen renovation next spring will mandate fresh everything. We'll be stripping to the 4 walls.

Not looking forward to the mess, but will certainly be worth it in the
end.

This is a funny topic.. awhile back, wasn't someone asking about painting behind the washer and dryer? I think I remember lots of gals saying don't bother, or they didn't either! LOL I have never had to paint behind the fridge or stove, but if I did, and if they were never, never moving from that spot, I would only paint around them. Mirrors and bookcases and such like that, I probly would move them and paint behind them..

I did paint a laundry room once, and the only reason I painted the whole room was because we didn't have the washer and dryer there yet..

Nope, I don't paint behind the stove, the fridge, the washer, dryer and the water heater.

I'm not allowed to paint. It's the one thing that I have tried to do and my dh told me to stop. My five year old son paints better than me. So does the ten year old boy. The daughter paints like her mother. So it's the dh that paints behind everything but the water heater, It's stuck in a tight corner.

my favorite decorating them? Creative camoflauge! If it's ugly or hard to reach, it gets decorated.

Your title could be a title for a book......and it would cover those folks who go the extra mile, whether anyone sees their efforts or not. I really admire those folks..

P.S. I do it if I can reach. And also, who cleans behind the fridge?
