Let's brag, ladies! What's your best sale shopping trip thus far??

Today I bought...
2 lbs pasta
2 lbs strawberries
3 lbs bananas
3 dozen eggs
6 english muffins
for...
$1.94...apprx 10% of the total regular prices.

I thought of Alee's old grocery challenge..that's what inspired me to start this, lol. :)

Jodi, where do you shop? My goodness! I used my Fred Meyer rewards coupons today and got:
5 lbs sugar
10 lbs flour
1 doz eggs
1/2 gal milk for

6 cents.

Of course, I couldn't get organic--I was going for cheap.
Hey, when I post it's not showing up that I posted on the forum but I can read my posts. Can you see me? New operating system on my old computer this weekend...wonder if it messed something up?

I can see your post, Jami! It does that to me occasionally, too...don't know why!

I did my shopping at Safeway yesterday. I'll NEVER buy anything regular price at Safeway because they're always overpriced, but they can have some really good sale items. Last week they had a special where if you bought $30 of special marked items you got a $10 off coupon for your next purchase...so I went through and bought $30 of the special items that were on sale additionally. Also...bought an item that gave me another $1.00 coupon...

SO yesterday...I stuffed my basket with apprx $11 worth of items and paid for almost all of it with those two coupons, lol.

The strawberries were buy one, get one free...the pasta was on sale for $1.00/package...the eggs were on sale AND I bought the ones marked down an extra 75 cents because of the expiration date...and the English muffins were a dollar off, too....

But 6 cents whoops me!!

Well, I lied on the flour...it's a 5 lb sack, not 10. I am impressed with your purchases, girl. The eggs especially! I read on coupon blogs that lots of folks use double coupons...we NEVER have those here in Eburg. I just don't see them ever, do you?

I am just like you Jodi, everything I buy has to be on sale or some kind of regular low price or I wait to buy it. The problem I see with most coupons is they are for packaged/branded items and I usually buy staples and go homemade on most things or buy in the bulk section for cereals, so these "cash" coupons work for me lots better. It sounds like your Safeway coupon worked the same way (the $10 one).

I see myself today, by the way. Have to use some "compatible" button in internet explorer for this site.

Well, I have been reading two blogs: http://www.frugalchicliving.blogspot.com/ and http://athriftymom.com/

the second site is great, though the page is quite full and in my oppinion sometimes hard to focus (I need one idea at a time--I am sooo easily distracted as it is). What I really like about her site is that she has on the right hand side of the page symbols for different grocery stores, like albertsons etc. and when you click on it it takes you to a place where she has listed current deals for that particular store.

In Sunday's paper Albertsons distributed 3 double your manufacturer's coupon coupons as well as some of their own coupons. I get two papers, so I had 6 of these.
Also Albertsons had store coupons, too. I combined the albertson's store coupons with manufacturer's coupons so like on ritz crackers, the albertson's coupon made it $1.88/box minus $1.00 manf. coupon = 0.88/box!
On several items I received these double discounts. on other items I used only the manufacturer's coupons but this was double discount thanks to the Albertsons double your manf. coupon offer.

I don't buy items I don't like or won't use just because I have a coupon. Easy Mac has been a big item on both the blogs, but I'd never use that so I didn't buy it... but that's just me.

I have never sought out the double coupon coupons because someone told me they were illegal in WA state but that must not be true if you use them. Thanks for the link to the sites - looks like some great coupons on the second one.

I am so sorry you'd heard that story! I don't know why that would be said to you... quite silly, really... why then would they be distributed in WA newspapers?!

Thanks for the info, Lizbeth. I frequent the frugalchic blog but hadn't seen the other one. I will bookmark it so I can keep track. We have an Albertsons so I can use those for sure!

Frugal Chic is my favorite coupon blog! I read it every day. Sherri - I've live in WA for 25 years and have always used double coupons so I'm sure they're legal. Safeway has them all the time and Albertson's just started. There are some mfg coupons that say don't double or triple. Word has it that Albertson's is coming out with doubles again in this Sunday's paper.

How do we know which papers carry these? Every single WA newspaper Sunday edition? I don't get the paper so I'll have to go buy one out of a box somewhere.
Thanks.

I never see the Sunday paper - so I didn't even know the papers carried double coupons. Now I'll have to seek them out. No Sunday paper, or daily paper for that matter in our town! Do they have them in the Daily O?

Both the local papers here (the Walla Walla Union Bulletin & the TriCity Herald) always have the coupon booklets (SmartSource & Red Plum) on Sundays....except for the occasional holiday Sunday.

And store ads usually come out Tuesdays. :) Albertsons is having a good sale on cream cheese this week.....88 cents for a block of it. :)

If you're a Coupon Queen (hey that could be a Farmgirls chapter - Coupon Queens) you have to get a Sunday paper and also a weekday (usually Tuesday) when all the store ads come out. If the coupons are going to be really good in the Sunday paper sometimes I will buy 4 - it's worth it for the savings. Sherri - the coupons would be in a major paper like The Oregonian, The Columbian, Idaho Statesman, etc. You can also buy coupons from this site. http://www.thecouponclippers.com/ Sometimes if there is a really good deal I buy from her. She also has a calendar that tells what coupons are coming out in the paper so you know which Sunday will be a really good one. I also take the Mid-week food ad and will buy coupons for any specials that they have. She ships right away and you usually get them in about 3 days - well before the sales end the next Tuesday. I also buy coupons on eBay.

There was recently a $4 coupon on any Schick Intuition Razor or refill. My daughter and I both love these razors but they are expensive. Walgreens was running a special with the razor being $8.99 and you got a $3 Register Reward to use on your next purchase. I used my $4 coupon. So basically I paid $1.99 for the razor. I bought 20 more of these coupons (for $3.00) and will stock up on refills when I see a deal.

My friend and I are also stockpiling things that we get for free or for a dollar or less using our coupons. We will be having a huge sale at the end of the summer and sell off our goodies. Many people do this and some have made from $500 to $3000 in a weekend.

The Sunday Olympian does have the coupons, Sherri. I also have the Seattle Times delivered. Often those coupons are slightly different than the daily O's. I've thought about also getting the Tacoma paper, but haven't done so yet.
You can subscribe for just the weekend papers (if they deliver to your area). I haven't ever gotten store flyers in my Tuesday paper, those I get in my mailbox for some reason.
If you purchase a paper in the store on Sunday you have to look carefully at the one you select because people have been known to steal the coupons/inserts. It is much easier to have it delivered, if possible :)

Hi ladies! There were Albertsons doublers in yesterday's paper! I scored big time with my shopping trips last night--two transactions at one store, and two at another--all in all $104 worth of groceries for $26.00
(including 4# deli meat and 8 boxes of boca burgers (4 patties/box), crackers, taco shells, dressing, cheese). I splurged on Oreos :)

Any other successes?

Oh wow, Lizabeth! You did better with those double coupons than I did! I spent $76 and saved the same with some change. So only about 50% of my total. But still...compared to actually spending the $150ish! :)

Hi ladies! just wondered if there were more success stories to share?

I have one from today:
In two transactions at Albertsons I purchased 12 small jars of natural p.b., 15 packages of tuna, 4 boxes of mac n cheese (using a b3g1 coupon), 2 bottles of dressing, and 2 bottles of nesquick milk. After coupons, catalinas, double coupons etc. I only paid about 13.00 and that worked out to $0.37/item! a 78% savings. wow wow wow

I had a good visit to Albertson's the other night. They had Skippy peanut butter on sale for .99 with an in-store coupon. I had coupons for .75 off per jar so I got peanut butter for .24 a jar! I got 6 jars. Then they had Right Guard deoderant on closeout for $1.00 each. I had a .50/2 coupon and used the doublers in last Sunday's paper. I got free deoderant! I spent $2.48 for 6 jars of peanut butter and 6 tubes of deoderant!!
