Hey Gail, I just took a peek @ your Lo-Liner,,, how cool! be sure to post interior pic's for us Nosey Nellies! lol! But I must warn you, all of you, these lil' trailers can be addicting... we have 2, a '58 Aljo. and a 63 Serro Scotty and we will be on the hunt in the near future for a trailer from the 1940's like Heathers. Jump in, have a camera at hand and "Show No Fear!"...... hugz
Hey Nikki, show us pic's of your Airstream....after all, owning a vinetage trailer is like being a "proud Grammy" to a mini tin house on wheels! >^..^< Happiness is being a katmom. "I've never met a sewing machine I didn't like!"

Ok gals I will put what the inside looked like on my blog. I have already begun painting and my dh has been fixing all the outside trim and making sure everything works, which it does. I had all new locks made for it yesterday and Grace ,I could see how addicting they could become as I still look for an oldie as I'm driving around thinking "I could fix that up". And I would love to see what you gals have done to your interiors.

hey Karen & Gail,,,, me too! I love the turquoise so much that guess what? DH & I painted the stove & ice box "turquoise"! &&&& I Luv It! I bought a twin size Futon mattress/pad to use for the sofa/bed....works perfect. But It is red so I will need to make a cover for it. My colors will be Turquoise, Pink & soft yellow.....and I will meld the design between mid '50's & '60's....should be cute & quirky. Karen, feel free to come on over and jump in the fun of trailer renovation....for sure I will be over at your place when you start on yours! I'll be the one in the lawn chair wearing funky sunglasses & sipping on a martini while telling you what you need to do! lol! Sooo, did ya bring your Aljo home? Come on girl, I want to see my GVR's lil' sister.... hugz,

hey Karen, for the ice box I used Krylon gloss in "Ocean Breeze Blue".. I used it also for the stove top. I rearly use my propane stove, I prefer to cook outside and I did the same thing w/my SCAMP trailer and the paint held up well to the flame, but I never put the stove on high, just on low to med flame. The BBQ paint only comes in black & white,,,but there is also an appliance paint, but again, it comes in limited colors. Wowzer, it took me nearly 3 hours to do all the cut in work! aacckk! lots of corners & crevices.... Wed., I will paint the inside. We checked out all the running lights so while I am painting, Gary will be hooking up the lights. Tonight I was using rubbing compound to get off the oxidation,,,my arms are going to hgurt tomorrow!Well off to the shower and then relax w/a nice glass of heart smart wine. wink wink!

I am so excited my baby, Trailer Trash is coming this morning. I am going over for the parade drive home later this morning, the owner (sil's father) is bringing it over for me as my truck has no hitch and needs a clutch. WoooHooo, I get to decontruct, plan and dream. Opps, maybe, that should be plan, dream and deconstruct. lol

T. T. is here and she's a mess. Worse mess I have seen in awhile...and I have seen some baddddd houses. I tore into her immediately, and some dryrot (some boards actually gone!) construction is so different than a house, so light weight! And almost no insulation...all this will change. I have so many questions and need sources. Notice on the second pic of the door way, on the left bottom area, no wood frame, it is toast! Colors!!! Ha, Gracie, I can't even think of going there yet, so much to destruct! I'll get back to you when I am in construction mode. lol

Oh, Karen! I know! When I first got my Airstream I was mainly worried about getting curtains, reupholstering the couch, and putting down a new floor.....then I pulled up the bathroom carpet and I knew I was in for a loooong haul.
Lovin' Man refused to do anything to it unless we ripped everything out. He was so right. I just didn't want it to be so 'cause it looked so cute with all of the original contents. As we began to tear into it I realized that we would have probably gotten extremely ill from all of the mold if we had tried to use it the way it was and we would definitely have ended up falling through the floor as well. HA!
Old campers are worth the effort though. There is nothing else like them on the market. I checked on new Airstreams and did not fall in love with any of them. I "heart" 1975! Plus, it is awesome to fix them up as you can afford it instead of going into debt. Much smarter!
Good luck to you! I can't wait to see what you do with it! I will post photos of my "tin can on wheels" when we finally get the floor down. Maybe this afternoon! YAY!

I soooo agree! these little bits of 'American Tin on Wheels' are fun, challenging & wonderful to re-hab. Whether it is from the 50/60/70 or 80's, to me it is the ultimate re-purposeing project and the end results are so satisfying. Although it would and can be easy to get in over ones head project wise & money wise, the hub's & I find it to be a fun challenge to re-create & scavenge for parts....sometimes we get lucky on ebay, sometimes at a local auto wrecking yard and other times a friend knows a friend that has access to a part. While other times we have to get creative, "re-construct" a part....In the end, the results are awesome and satisfying... So Nikke & Karen, remember my motto::: Show No Fear!...oh and take lots of pics along the way.

Oh my goodness! I have wanted, pined, prayed, wished for a vintage Shasta camper with wings for a million years. Way before I started reading Mary Jane's magazine, way before I found Sisters on the Fly on the internet. So I found one on Craigs list the week for (ready?) $300.00. No wings, but still a canned ham and a Shasta. I am sitting here debating and agonizing, 'cause you know it's going to be in really rough shape. I've contacted the guy and he said it's solid and towable (what more can you ask for right?) Arrgghh! Dreaming and doing are so totally opposite things.
My heart says GO FOR IT. My head says, You fool, just what yo need-another project.
So hard...
Smiles, Lisa

Oh, Lisa, you should go for it if you possibly can! Imagine the traveling freedom you will have on the road! That is the thing. The chance to get out and explore and have the cute comforts of home to come along with you!

Lisa, I would not pay his first price, try and offer less to start and definately go for it. I decided this tin can was really ready for trailer heaven or ? but I really can't hurt it and I know it will be so much better when I am done. Not sure it will be this summer but who cares I can just go sit in it and dream of being on the road with farmgals. Nikki, I can't wait to see your trailer and new floor, please post soon and thanks for all the encouragement, I need it! You go girl! These trailers all look rough, mine is 50 years old, I mean how good did/do we look at that age, especially if we had been sitting out in a field in the elements for years. Some things are just not in the same working order as they were when we were 25 but we can make them shine! And I like the class that comes with age.

Hey, Karen! Here is a photo of the original gaucho in the Airstream.
And here is what it looks like now that we tore everything out, replaced the floor and stained it.
You can see that there are lots of wires hanging out and the whole inside needs to be painted. It is a work in progress! I am totally going to use it as a beach house and just keeping fixing it more and more as the years go by. Poor Lovin' Man started working on it and then started searching the real estate ads at the beach. Apparently, he would rather buy a beach house than work on the camper.
Here is a photo of how nasty it was behind the refrigerator. That black shape to the right is where the fridge was. ICK!

I think once you get the leak points cleared up you are good to go. You will obviously find lots of rotten wood in there, but it was a good thing you had vinyl under the refrigerator.
I think you will do well.

What a sweet ride! The bones are sooooo good! Wow, you are going to town! It is going to be super nice when you get it done. I am still working on the door. I took it all apart and got the rotten wood out and got a new piece of paneled wood to replace the dryrotted piece and it is clamping now. Small town hardware store is hard to shop for the nails and screws one needs to do the job, darn! When I get started I hate to leave for anything! It gets so frustrating when you can't get the things you need. I had to go through my nail/screw tin just to get enough paneling type nails with some kind of head. Ah, well, I guess since I have been at it since 6 am I will take a siesta as it is so hot.

Wow, Karen, you are remaking the door! You are awesome! Lovin' Man has to help me do everything because I absolutely don't even know how to operate a drill...but I am learning! Thanks for showing us the photos! I love seeing what you can do!

Thanks, I have never done this before and the new paneling was warped so it was really trying my patience but gluing it and clamping was a good plan, even if it wasn't bowed as any moisture would have tried to warp it, as it is so flimsy. Tin can for sure! Good for you, keep trying the tools, I remember the summer I tried the Makita power screw driver I thought I would die as it was sooooo heavy! I sure didn't last very long....Ha! I really don't think about the weight anymore. Thanks for your photos too, I guess I just love to see the pics, no reading......lol

I know, I am really into pictures, too. I am never satisfied with the amount of photos in magazines. LOL! I always want more.---I can't believe that you have never done that kind of repair. You are doing a great job!
I am not sure of the population of my town. I would guess that it is around 5,000 but it has been growing pretty steadily. Guess what! The sun just came out! That is certainly a change of pace from what we have been having for the past several weeks!
I am going to put the second coat of clear on the camper floor today! Lovin' Man was able to hook up the power yesterday and he made the air-conditioner work! YAY! I didn't believe that it would. One less thing, as Forest Gump would say.
Happy camper fixin' up for you, Karen!
