they eat everything!

Please share you tried and true methods for keeping these critters away from new planted plants. Well, I suppose I need to keep the chickens away from the planted seeds, too.
I have the garden fenced, but it's all the flowers and other plants that are eaten down. The rabbits have even munched on the trees.

I thought I had read that sprinkling cayenne pepper around the area would keep them out. But, can't remember if that's true or if I'm dreaming it.LOL

I appreciate any help and my flowers and plants appreciate it, too.

Maybe giving them more supplemental foods and make sure the rabbits have some crunchy things to chew on?

I had to confine my chickens in the pasture. We had the hatchery clip their wings so that they couldn't fly over the pasture fence. I don't think anything else will work.
Are you talking about wild rabbits or tame ones?

I do know you can run some electric wire a couple of inches from the ground. That would probably keep the rabbits out and the chickens too if they can't fly.

Gena, yes, I'm talking about wild rabbits. Sorry for the confusion.
I really don't want to put up fencing, even electric. I will have to use that as a last resort.
I'll keep searching the internet and my garden books.

Thanks for the tips.

Please do not put up electrical fencing to keep the rabbits out--they will bite the wire and get badly burned. Maybe a dummy owl would discourage them from coming around. You could also trying using fox urine (I know, gross) but it'll keep the rabbits away.

we will be creating a coop/run for our chicken gals..as although we love them and like to see them walking around..they can be rather destructive to a yard/flower beds. they love to scratch in mulched beds and if you have a strawberry bed/you can forget ever getting berries from your plants as they adore the green berries...so we will be building hopefully a moveable coop with a run ...at our new home ...and yes..adding to our flock eventually..but chickens can be quite destructive to grass/lawn/plants.If you can find a way to build a chicken run for your guys/gals that would work for your chicken friends.
There are predator sprays available if the rabbits are a problem/like fox scent sprays and so forth..I'd suggest something like that for the bunny problems.
Good luck.

I thank you all for your input. I plan to try the scented spray/liquid today. But, if the rabbits (more than a dozen at at time) are still devouring everything, they will be permanently taken care of. Sorry, but when it comes to food for our family or rabbits, I have to say the rabbits have to go. We do have fencing around our main garden, but it's financially impossible to fence in every garden area.
I really do love animals and don't want to sound cruel. But, we can not allow them to have their way with our plantings any longer.

A friend of mine said that rabbits hate human hair and she is going to try that this year. She said she's going to get it from a local barbershop. Sounds weird, but she thinks that it will work..along with some vinegar. Here is a website that will help you out:

Hope that helps!

A newbie gardner question here - will rabbits & deer eat my tomato plants? I put a net cover over my square foot garden but my tomato plants are getting too tall. I'd like to move the cover over so the tomatoes can start heading up the trellis...
