Last year we tried to do a whole day without using electricity. ok, we didn't unplug stuff like refrigs, but didn't use any "extra" intentional electricity like tv, computers, power tools, microwave. It was tough, but fun. Luckily the stove is gas and made a lovely candle lit dinner and hot-tubbed in the heated stock tank. Felt like LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRARIE (with propane). Oh, and I'm going to buy a few more compact flourecents to replace those energy wasting incandescents.

I brought a vegetarian lunch (thank you, Janice and Lisa's fab leftovers :)) and I am taking Violet tonight to the arboretum and nature preserve to walk about. I turned off our heat, turned off all lights and unplugged unused appliances and took my bits to the compost bin this morning, early, before I left for the office.

I wanted to work in the yard today, but have to go to work in a few minutes. I have "green cleaned" my house this morning though. But I am at least going to plant my elephant ears this afternoon and pick up the rose bush I have been wanting for the last week or so. I would love to get my wildflower seed planted too, but I'm not sure if I'll have enough time before the sun goes down.

I am going to have a belated earth-day. Once pay day rolls around we are going to start replacing 2 light outlets per paycheck with the CFL. We have some that are handily burnt out already so it's a good excuse to "splurge". However, remember to keep your reciepts when you buy the CFL lights! If they die prematurely you can return them!

Hey Alee, that almost exactly what my blog post was today! I am trying to take small steps every week, so this week, I bought local honey in an effort to promote local business and sustainable food.

After I get home from work today, I'm gonna change my clothes and grab some trash bags and walk 1/2 mile down both ends of our road and pick up trash. People just can't seem to take it with them or leave it in their cars till they get home.. I'm also strapping a sign to my butt that says, "HAPPY EARTH DAY" while I'm picking it up.
Although at work today , we went to an event sponsored by Office Max. Last week they came to our building and gathered up all the office supplies we had tons of or didn't need anymore. Then today we all went to a building on campus that they took all the stuff too and got to pick out anything and everything we wanted for free. Plus Office Max gave out all kinds of really great stuff.....I got an adding machine, some highlighter markers, an ink cartridge for my computer at home...just all kinds of stuff! And a free tote bag!

I made a pea trellis from recycled materials, planted peas then visited my local eco living store and bought my husband and best friend kleen kanteens.

I had an earth day dinner, on Monday. We had all organic food. I made a veggie and chicken bakeover and a blackberry chill over. We played the Earth Day card game from Organic Valley. It was a fun evening. Now I am headed out to the garden to get my fingernails dirty!
For tomorrow and its needs I do not pray, but keep me, guide me, love me, Lord just for today. St. Augustine
