Oh my gosh! We are all fine but I am so behind on this post!
First off, Cherry, I have to agree that LL Cool J is one good-lookin' male specimen. He is 41-years-old and beats everyone I ever saw with those muscles! He must be using steroids, otherwise I cannot account for it!
Kris, I was trying to find a website of that Feed Store with the stainless steel kitchen. Do they have a website?
Y'all made me laugh so hard with your "liquer" stories! Cherry, I cannot believe that you are enabling your parents in such a way! I love the way you describe your mom. She sounds like a HOOT!
Kris, and how do you make vanilla extract? Do you REALLY just soak it in the vodka or do you check it every few days and say, "Hmm, needs more vodka!" LOL!
Oh, Karen! I saw those satellite images of the smoke from those fires going out over the Atlantic. THAT was a lot of smoke. Oh, I am feeling for you. I do hope that y'all will get some rain soon!
Alee, "the squirrel whisperer". HA! I thought about you as I bent over that roasted, little body. His whiskers were singed and he had a burnt spot on his belly. Sad, sad, sad. We buried him in the yard, we committed his life energy to God and into big acorn tree in the sky, and Oakley decorated his headstone with some writing and dead roses.
Cherry, I am so glad to hear that your marriage "took" on the second round. I, myself, remarried a husband, but he turned out to still be lowdown. He could just talk me into ANYTHING! I HAD to get away from him. Still have nightmares about it!
Kris, I am so glad that the ducks aren't swimming in the garden anymore! What a funny scene! I hope you took pictures!
I just went out to check on my tomato plants and they look a little beaten down by the rain. Slug damage seems to be at a standstill, and the basil looks okay.
Boy, I wish I could plant as many things as y'all have! I told Lovin' Man that we need to cut a few trees down in the front yard, plow it up and plunk the plants down. He didn't seem to think that was ENTIRELY insane, so maybe it would be doable. WHAT will the neighbor's think?

Oh, Kris, yes, you should be a Bama Girl. Or maybe what you really should be is called a GaBamTen or GaTenBam or an AlaGaTen. Oh, I could go on.
Oh the weekends when my step-daughter is here there are only two computers to be divided between 4 people. And three of those people are computer hogs, but I won't say who.

Ok, I am glad ya'll are all ok. Poor squirrel. At least he got a decent buriel, that was sweet. And I love your daughter's name. So cute. I have a cat named Andy Oakley. And yes, I am happy to be a Bama Belle. So cool. Thanks, ya'll.
We have fire ant hills all over. The only thing that kills them is gas. I had to do that the other day. I hate to. These hills were right by the milk room and the smell is awful. But the rain has gotten rid of the smell now.
The garden looks ok so far. Ducks were out there awhile ago trying to find their pond. They looked lost.
I just heard the news about the weather. There was a woman killed in Ms. when a tree fell on her. So sad. And a tornado in Crossville, Tn. My sister-in-law lives there. I guess I better call to see if they're ok.
Cherry, your garden sounds good. As I was reading about the beans I was about to say the same thing as your grandmother! Ya gotta plant the corn FIRST then wait til the corn is a few inches high before ya plant the beans, sweetie! Nuf said!

I just heard that even with all the rain we've had recently, we are still 1/2" below normal! Good grief!

I HATE fire ants. When we lived in South Alabama, you couldn't walk out in the yard barefoot without getting bit by them. I have noticed pastures filled with their mounds every five feet. Ugh. Sorry that you have them in your house! That would make me crazy!
Yeah, we got MORE rain today, too. I bet we will the reminiscing about it in August. HA!

Kris, do you have fire ants in the house or sugar ants? Sugar ants don't like cinnamon if that's what you've got. Being in our log cabin, we've had problems in the past with carpenter ants. Ugh! But fire ants, that's one I have to ask God about one day. Just like mosquitoes and ticks and fleas. Why, God? What's their purpose?
I was sharing with the hubs about my little bean/corn "uh-oh" and he asked if I was sure I planted running beans and not bush beans 'cause "knowing me" I probably got them mixed up. Good thing he has such a cute babyface or I'd've smacked him right on it! But he redeemed himself by telling me that my garden looks good. Nevermind that he said it with that tone that hinted he couldn't quite believe it looked so good. Exasperating man!
Nikki, I love Oakley's name, too! How'd you come up with it? And you know we will be sorely missing all this rain in just a couple of months! The sun's out right now, so hopefully things will get a chance to recover before tomorrow. We're under a slight risk for thunderstorms then. It breaks my heart to hear about people losing their lives during a storm. It seems to me that's one of the most senseless of deaths. I worked with a fella who lost his teenage daughter during a storm when a tree feel on their home. They lived in a single wide with her bedroom on one end and his the other. She woke in the middle of the night and got on the couch to sleep 'cause she didn't like storms and wanted to be closer to her daddy. If she'd stayed in bed, she would've been fine. Aw, it was horribly sad.
Sorry. Didn't mean to bring us all down.
Kris, do you know yet how much damage the ducks did to your garden? I wonder what made them prefer the garden "pond" over their home pond?

That is so sad about the girl who was killed in a tornado! I had a dream the other night that a tree fell on our house and it was on Nick's bed. I rushed in expecting to see him crushed and dead, but he crawled out without a scratch on him. I probably have at least one tornado nightmare a month. Scary stuff that it happens to people in real life. Very sad.
I admire Annie Oakley. She was born Phoebe Ann Mosey but made up that stage name. I thought about using the name Watanya Cicilla which Sitting Bull conferred upon her (it means "little sure shot"), but dang, that's a mouth full and not many people speak Sioux anymore.

Hey Ya'll. I've been gone all day shopping. I was having thrift store withdrawals so had to go. I found all kinds of good stuff and clothes for the GKs. So I had a nice day out. With SUNSHINE, too! Had to wear the sunglasses. Very nice. But tomorrow is supposed to be thunderstormy. And that happened here to an 18 year old college student who came home for Easter weekend and a tree fell on his bedroom and killed him. So sad.
I was out in the garden earlier and something ate one of my pepper plants. Then I checked on my little bitty tomato plants and about half of them are gone. So, something's on the prowl. Heather, my DD, said it's probably the darned ole chickens. But why don't they get them all? I think it's slugs. I am a little down about this and just the whole garden so far. With the monsoon and now half my plants gone, it's a little discouraging. Plus just now Lil Kim and Derek were voted off Dancing with the Stars. So I'm just a little down right now. And I have a sick buckling. I noticed he had runny poopy rear so I went ahead and gave him a CDT shot and a dose of Kaopectate. I hope he's better tomorrow. I hate when they get sick. It's probably because of all the mud out there.
And the ants are the little "piss ants" as my mother calls them. Little black ants. They are all over the front door and living room floor. I am spraying vinegar on them. It works til it dries. I'll have to sprinkle cinnamon over the threshold.
That's weird, Nikki. I have tornado dreams, too. I think it's my worse fear, besides pulling out my driveway and a car plowing into me. Tornadoes are so scary. Well, snakes, too.
Anyway, I hope everyone had a great sunny day and ya'lls gardens are growing.
Kris

We had a nest of black ants at our old place and (well this isn't exactly organic) but I dumped some comet on them and it killed the whole nest in minutes!
Kristin- if you suspect slugs- try putting out a pie plate of beer. I guess they really like that- like it so much they die happy!
I am so glad we are living back in the dryer climate where slugs grow to be at most a quarter inch long!

Oh, Kris! I am sorry that you are down. With the slugs I tried sprinkling with Epsom salts and I think that might have worked. I have no idea how to get Lil' Kim back.
Yes, Oakley once commented that she was afraid of hurricanes. I was like, "Why? You know days ahead when one is coming and you can get away from them, but with a tornado there is no telling when or where one will hit." So now she is afraid of tornadoes. So glad that I steered her straight.
Yes, more rain for today. Ugh.
Alee, speaking of your comet killing spree. My sister used Clorox Clean-up on roaches at her old apartment. She sprayed the stuff everywhere. They had bleached out spots on the carpets and walls. She didn't care, she was going to kill those suckers!

Cherry, I think you might be on to something. I sprinkled cin. on the door frame and just now only saw a few. AND my house smells good, too! Now I need more cin, but if it works...And I'll have to try the beer and epsom salts, too. Man oh man, why are there so many irraitating creatures around? Do ya'll think when Noah built the ark and they were on the water so long that they had ants and slugs and all those horrible insects? God did say 2 of everything. But why them? Ya can't drown an ant anyway. They were probably on the olive branch when the dove came back to the ark. And now this.
Poor poor little Oakley. I have to tell my DD to really be careful what she tells her girls. The least little thing just sets them off. Now they are afraid to sleep upstairs in the beautiful rooms we had made just for them.
It's raining, it's pouring...

Kris, so glad that the cinnamon worked. You and Cherry are making me laugh about the pests. I bet everyone on the planet has had one of those conversations with God. "Why?!" When they were covered in bug bites, found fat ticks in their hair, or had a mosquito buzzing in their ear. You're right, Kris, Noah had a chance to make a clean break from those things and it is clear that he didn't take it or else they were all out there clinging to the outside of the ark. If that was the case, then we can't put the blame on him. Yeah, maybe the ants made their own ark by hanging on to each other!

Lawd, help, the sun's out! Unfortunately, today that's not a good thing! Nikki, I hope you're all right after this mornings storms. You, too, Kristin! Can ya'll believe this? I'm just 39 and don't have the best of memories (like how I said "just"?), but I don't remember having several days in a row of severe weather. Global warming? End of days? Wrath of God?
That's great that you named your daughter after Annie Oakley, Nikki! I was really hoping she wasn't named after sunglasses! And it sounds like she has a great imagination! How old is she?
Kris, you think the chickens are pecking bugs off your plants and getting more than just the bug? And we call them "piss" ants, too. I just didn't want to offend anyone inadvertantly so was trying to be sweet! But piss ant is a more appropriate name! I don't remember where I got the idea of using cinnamon. Probably read it somewhere, but it does work. We had a problem with them at our last house when Lauren was an itty-bitty and I didn't like the idea of using chemicals. And doesn't it make the house smell good! It's also a realtor "trick" I use! That and vanilla extract. And I'm with you about some of these critters! And how's your buckling? I'm sorry about your garden. That's so discouraging. Will you try to replant?
As for my garden, I have a couple of tomato plants bent by the wind, one broccoli plant that went to flower, the lettuce got beat into the ground from the rain, and something's eating my lemon balm. But, the okra's starting to break through, the squash has flower buds on it and two mounds of cucumbers I'd given up on finally broke through! Still haven't got the watermelon in the ground though. Should I go ahead and plant with the ground so wet?
Ok, ya'll know by now that I am a total klutz and a complete danger to myself. Sunday I was cutting ivy back off the house (never use ivy to cover your foundation blocks unless you want it to swallow your house whole!) On the corners of the house, the logs stick out. Can ya'll picture what I'm saying? Well, there was a big ol' clap of thunder and lightning crack and I was hightailing it out of there when I hightailed it right into one of those logs and smacked my forehead right into it! Just about knocked myself backwards and needless to say, it left a mark. The hubs said I'm getting a football helmet for Mother's Day. So, there's that. Then yesterday, I was filling the dogs self-watering thingy that holds about a gallon or more of water. I didn't get the bottom snapped on good and when I flipped it over to put it on it's base, water went everywhere! UGH! I unplugged the microwave and picked it up to move it so I could get the water underneath it. I was twisting at the waist to set it down when the phone rang. I twisted further to see the tv to see who was calling and that's when it happened! Pulled a muscle. Heard it pop. Didn't know muscles popped, but it did. It was the hubs on the phone, so of course, it's all his fault. I have some lovely little muscle relaxers to take for the bursitis in my shoulder, only I don't trust myself to drive while I'm on them. So this morning came with a choice; spend the day a bit spacey and relatively uncomfortable or suck it up and work through the pain. Well, I'm a big baby, too, when it comes to pain, so there you have it. The hubs said he'd forbid from doing anything "dangerous" when he's not here, but it seems I could manage to hurt myself sitting in a padded room. Did I ever tell ya'll about nearly snipping the end of my finger off? I was trimming the top of a sweet shrub that I was trying to train into a tree-form (impossible to do, by the way). I was having to reach overhead and just a pruning away when I felt something wet running down my arm. Yep, it was blood. Not sweat, like I hoped. And of course, once I saw the blood, I felt the pain. I called the hubs, told him I was running to town to get my finger stitched up. He told me that when I got back I was to sit on the couch and not do anything until he got home. Took 7 stitches. And two shots. I hate shots! Fortunately the cut ran up my finger and not across. Then there was the time I was on subdivision duty and I reached up to pull a garage door down and got the two middle fingers on my left hand stuck in the crack and couldn't pull them loose. The door had latched. Fortunately I had my phone in my pocket so I could call the hubs. Let me tell you, I was hysterical!! I'm claustrophobic and can not handle not being able to move! It took him almost half an hour to get to me, me stuck in that door and blubbering like a baby. He came tearing up the driveway, jumped out of the truck, came running around the front, did an about-face, ran back to his tool box, grabbed a crowbar and came running back at me with that crowbar raised. Scared the bejeesus out of me! I started yelling, "The key! The key!" All he had to do was get the door key out of the lockbox that was out of my reach and raise the door from the inside. By this time I couldn't feel my hand, so he took me to the ER. They were real nonchalant and treating me like I'd overreacted about getting my hand caught in a door. Once I explained to them, quite sarcastically, that my fingers had been without proper bloodflow for half an hour they got a new attitude. Fortunately nothing was broken, but the nailbed was damaged a bit and now my fingernails grow more "rounded". Yep, I'm my own worst enemy.
And I guess you can tell my pills are working with all this rambling I'm doing! Sorry!

Geeze Loise! Poor girl. I thought I was bad, but you get the prize. I have gotten my fingers stuck in the garage door. That hurts. Have you ever been rammed by a ram? Now that's something to talk about. Man. That'll never happen again. And I guess falling would have to be my forte'. I do that all the time. Down the stairs, on the muddy lawn, in the chicken yard, on icey concrete.
Piss ant was my mon's favorite thing to call us kids when we weren't minding her. Years ago she drank real bad and she'd holler at us and call us piss ants. I hate to say it, but it was hillarious and we'd all end up rolling on the floor laughing. That must be where ROFL came from, someone saw us after my mom called us piss ant. Oh, the memories!
I heard on the news there were tornado warnings in Jackson county and another one in Alabama today. I don't know what's going on with this crazy weather lately. It sure is a mess. Cherry, you must have started your garden early. My spinach is only a few inches tall. The swiss chard is looking great and the cabbage, too. The lettuce is finally taking off.
I hope you have a good night and stay away from electricity when you are near water, too. Ok? And I hope all the wacky weather is gone from there.

Oh, Cherry! I was afraid that you were going to say that you electrocuted yourself unplugging the microwave while you were standing in a puddle of water! Phew! My goodness, it does sound like you are your own worst enemy! At least you aren't a baby about going to the hospital, like men are. Do you know when it is happening that you will be laughing about it later and entertaining others with your mishaps? There have been a few occasions when things went to crap that I allowed myself to think in the back of my mind, "Hey, this is funny. I can't wait to tell this to somebody!" Ha!
Kris, I am glad that y'all were able to laugh at your mom instead of taking her ramblings seriously and to heart. Plus, I bet laughing at her made her so mad. LOL!
No, I was just thinking to myself today, either the weather is like this every spring and I forget how bad it can be or it has been worse than anything that I have ever seen. I would have to say that it is the later. The kids actually got out of school early, after all the bad stuff passed. I felt like I should have just kept them home, but dang it, they have missed so much already, I didn't feel free to do it. I can't wait until school is over!
Oakley, the sunglasses. Oh, cool. Dual reasons for the name. Ha! Oakley is 9 and I have been into learning everything that I can about alligators since I recently bought kayaks and planned to use them in the bay and Gulf Shores State Park and then, much to my dismay, discovered that LARGE alligators inhabit the lakes in GSSP AND they can actually hunt in salt water, too. Well, of course, Oakley has heard me talking about alligators. The whole family is sick to death of hearing about alligators. Now one of Oakley's Barbie families has an alligator for a pet. He sleeps on their couch and has his own special pillow. Ken walks him on a leash and Barbie holds him like a baby. She tells me all kinds of stories about this sweet alligator. Just that part in itself lets me know that she has a great imagination.
Oh, and the rain has beat my poor tomato plants almost to death! Y'all be safe!

I wouldn't have been surprised had I electrocuted myself. And, no, I'm not usually thinking about how funny my mishaps are going to seem later while they're happening. I'm usually wondering how much money I'm gonna lose over it! The hubs and baby girl are, though. Well, he does after he gets over his initial anger with me. I provide them with lots of comedic material. Unfortunately. I've never been rammed by a ram, though. Yikes! Did he break anything? I bet you felt like you'd been hit by a Mack truck and bruised all over! I have been flogged by a chicken. That was when I was little, around 5, but I still remember it. She went straight for my head and my hair was down to my butt and she got tangled up in it. Nightmarish!
That is too funny about Oakley and the pet alligator! And it is so refreshing to hear about a 9 yo still playing with Barbie's. They grow-up so very fast these days. Seems they go from playing with baby dolls to calling boys "baby" in the blink of an eye!
I've been flirting with the idea of kayaking as something for me and the hubs to do, but I may have to re-think that. I didn't know about the alligators. I knew about sharks swimming up the MS from the gulf, but never thought about alligators. Hmmm, as if the water moccasins weren't enough. Did you know that AL has a nationally recognized river trail? It's supposed to be the longest in the country. There was an article about it in Southern Living. I'll "fish" it out and pass the info along to you!
Kris, that is sooo funny about your mom! And I'm with, Nikki, I bet it did make her so mad at ya'll! There was this one time when Mama was yelling at the three of us, oh, she was fit to be tied, red-faced and all, and mid-yell she got lock-jaw! We got in soooooo much trouble! We, too, were ROFL! And she kept trying to yell and her jaw was frozen open and she started drooling! Oh, my goodness, I'm cracking myself up remembering that and it's only making my back hurt worse! I gotta stop!
So, the weather; the State House has flooded today. 5" of rain in an hour and it's still coming down. The basement walls are actually crumbling and they're evacuating everyone. Unreal! And Alee, you might could say these storms are leading up to hurricane season only in that once our first tornado season ends our hurricane season begins. We actually have two tornado seasons down here. One in Spring and one in late Fall/early Winter. And hurricane season falls between them. But how bad the tornado season is doesn't really determine how bad the hurricane season will be. Right now, no rain. It's cloudy, but the sun's trying to come out.
I did plant early, Kris. I went by the almanac. I told my grandmother that I had and she said, "Yeah? And how's that workin' for ya?" Well, not too good at first 'cause we had those two cold snaps before the blackberries had even bloomed and I was having to cover and uncover everything. But everything seems to be adjusting well enough. I guess I'll know for sure when it comes time to pick stuff. What are you gonna do about your garden pond? Will you try to replant?

Hey Cherry. First thing this morning I looked out the front window and there were the demon ducks in the garden pond. So I ran out there to try to get them out into the yard til I can get the fence up. So now they are in the yard. Then I forgot to close the gate to the driveway and before I Started milking there go the ducks waddling down the driveway. It was so funny. They'd go a little ways and look back then go some more and look back. All they needed was a red bandanna tied to a stick thrown over their shoulders! Do ducks have shoulders? Anyway, it was so cute. So I had to herd them back up and shut the gate. I probably should have just let them go on, but I can't bear the thought of dogs getting them or hit by a car.
We had NO RAIN today!!!! So the water is gone from the garden. I went to see about the potatoes and they are very sparse. The onions look great, though. And everything else. Next year I will have to get a few dump loads of dirt out there in the low spots. And I had to get DE today and sprinkle on my remaining tomatoes. They are all heirlooms so I don't want to lose any more of them. But it all looks good so far. I have not seen the corn I planted on April 29th. They were seeds from last year, so they may not come up. But if we get sunny days they should soon.
I still laugh whenever I think of my mom doing that. The more we'd laugh the madder she'd get til she was almost spitting. If I want to get my mom tickled all I have to do is sat piss ant. She can't stop laughing either now.
Alee, so glad you got rain. I'll send you more later.
Kris

Kris, what a picture you paint of your little ducks running away! Aren't they just so cute that you can't stay mad at them long? I hope your baby goat who was having intestinal troubles is all better!
Cherry, Lovin' Man happened to be sitting beside me when I read your last post and I am laughing and laughing and wiping the tears out of my eyes and he is like, "WHAT is so funny?" And I try telling him but it doesn't sound near as funny when I try to explain. It was the drool that did it. I could just see it! Eyes blazing, unintelligible noises coming out, and the drool, oh mercy! The drool! What a wonderful memory! She'll never live it down!
Yes, I hate it that the two places that I want to kayak have large, dangerous predators in them. I was saying something about sharks being in the bay and one of Lovin' Man's friends, who has dove in the Gulf for the past 20 years, didn't believe me. None of them had ever entertained that possibility before, but it is true. They follow the prey in and out of Perdido Pass, just like we walk from one room in our house to the other. There was a boy killed in a river by a bull shark back in the early 1900's, in brackish water, so they don't mind a little fresh water mixed with their salt. Of course, the bay is all salt so there you go.
And people see alligators all of the time on the banks of the Intracoastal Waterway, but they are not saltwater creatures. They can only tolerate it until they need a drink then they hightail it back to the golf course ponds or wherever. Scary, because you don't know where one will show up. At least with sharks you know that they can't follow you onto the beach. HA!
Cherry, I hope that your back is better! I am 36 and I am starting to feel that I must resign myself to this aging process. LOL! I pulled my back a few weeks ago and had to lie around for a few days, taking muscles relaxers, and moan about my aching back. Back pain is debilitating! I don't wonder how people with back problems have to complain. The pain just lends itself to LOUD complaint and anyone within hearing distance had to hear about my back. I even called a few people and told them about it.
Alee, yay for the rain! Now things will begin to green. What a beautiful time of year!
We are going down to the farm this evening for the whole weekend, so I am going to attempt to cook over a fire again. Going for one of my Farmgirl Sisterhood badges! Y'all have a great weekend and happy gardening!

Know what I noticed, Kris? Those "darn" ducks went to being "demon" ducks to being "cute" ducks really quick-like! Oh, you gave me a good laugh with that mental-picture! I can just see them looking back at you like, "we're really leaving, we really, really are leaving, now's your last chance or we're outta here"!
Nikki, between remembering that "lock-jaw" day and reading about Kris' ducks, I've got tears I'm laughing so hard! We've had several "lock-jaw" moments with Mama. And the funniest times are when it locks open and not closed. Happened at decoration one time and all my extended cousins joined in with the laughter and mimicing! She couldn't beat all of us! She couldn't catch all of us!
Believe it or not, I have a duck story about Mama in honor of Kris' ducks. We had these good family friends who we'd spend week-ends with. They have a daughter my age. My mama is 5'2" and at the time was as wide as she was tall (as my daddy would say) and my friends mama was a couple inches taller than Mama and even bigger. We'd all go shopping; Mama, Mama Gail, Laurie Anne, me, and my sister. We were hitting the thrift stores one Saturday and had piled out of the truck when Laurie Anne noticed that my mama was following right behind her mama and she pointed out that they both kinda waddled. So we girls lined up behind my mama according to height and when they weren't noticing we'd "waddle" along behind them and "flap" our "wings". They'd be going down an aisle, looking through clothes and everytime they moved, there we were "waddling" right behind them. They knew we were up to something, but never could catch us. Mama even told us to go somewhere else and leave them alone. But we stuck right with them the rest of the day! The funniest was when we'd walk across a parking lot, all lined up behind them. Oh, my, we were so mean!
And thanks, Nikki, my back is better! You described me to a T, too. Usually the hubs doesn't have much sympathy for me because, as I've mentioned, he thinks I'm my own worst enemy. To his way of thinking I could probably avoid most all my aches and pains if I'd only half-use my brain more often. Whatever. And being a man and all, he just sucks it up and carries on because he doesn't have the "luxury" of just laying around whenever something hurts. Dratted man! So I try to rub it in good just to get under his skin. Must have done some good, 'cause I got home from work yesterday and he'd staked up my tomato plants for me! He left it to me to make the teepee's for the beans. Can't spoil me too much!
Speaking of the garden, my okra's coming up! Yay! And now I need to put this down and get out there to my little garden before the rain hits AGAIN! I'm trying not to whine about so much liquid sunshine, but I'm beginning to really miss the real thing! I know, I'll eat those words in short order, won't I?

Ya'll are not going to believe this! Spent all day yesterday working in the garden and yard and on the pool and did not hurt myself once! (Ha! That's not the part you aren't going to believe!) I was feeling pretty productive, pretty successful, pretty smug! Came in to take a much-needed shower, stepped over in the tub, left foot slipped and right leg hit the edge of the tub! At first I didn't notice this because my entire body, including the aforementioned pulled back muscle, clenched up tight! The hubs came running when I hollered out and grabbed my back, asked me what I'd done, and could only reply, "Well, Cherry!" (In THAT tone of voice!) Then the leg pain started. Knocked a big ol' knot on it and couldn't put weight on it. I could not be more disgusted with myself! We debated back and forth about going to the ER, but decided to wait 'til this morning to see how it's doing. Well, the swelling's down, so I'll probably just hobble around for a few days. Did ya'll know I'm Irish? Which fully explains my stupid luck!
It still could be broke though. When I was 11 or 12, I ran into the back of my granddaddy's truck and broke my leg. No, I literally ran into the back of his truck. It wasn't supposed to be there and I wasn't watching where I was going. Knocked a big ol' knot on my leg but I could still walk on it, so Daddy decided it wasn't broke. I even went to my swimming lessons. After 3 days of having a big ol' goose egg on my shin, my grandmother took pity and took me to the doc. I had a clean break through both lower bones. Yep, just my darn Irish luck! Broke my leg in the first week of summer vacation and 'bout near did it again almost 30 years later! UGH!

Poor girl. I sure hope it's not broken. That would not be fun, right here in plantin' season. I have to reallt be careful around here. I cannot afford to get hurt, financially or physically. With being older, things take a lot longer to heal. And I have too much to do to get hurt. Especially my hands. I have to milk by hand and if I hurt them, I'm in trouble. When I got rammed a few years ago, he got my knuckles on my right hand right before milking tome. I had to ice them down real good and keep ice on them. So be careful.
I have seen a few okra, too. I am going to have to replant a lot of stuff whenever it dries out enuf to til. It's raining again today. Out of 4 1/2 rows of taters I might have one full row that came up. The whole row of onions all came up and of course all the zuc. and squash came up. Anyway, there will be lots of replantin' going on soon.
I hope ya'll have a great Mother's day. My family's in the living room watching Broken Bridges.
