Most of everything is at the local Wal-mart or Supermarket. Health food stores for essential oils.

Oooh these are great recipes. Do you think I can use them in my front loader?

I don't know how the detergents will work in a front loader, as I don't have one, but, I would guess they would work just fine.

Rebekah- yes the homemade laundry soap doesn't contain the foaming agents that commercial detergents do so they are safe for High Efficiency/front loader machines. I do recommend using the liquid version though!

Julia: I have been using your homemade dishwasher detergent recipe. Am happy so far but for one problem: glasses are turning cloudy. I'm using a white vinegar rinse. What do I need to do to solve this problem. I don't want to give up and go back to commercial stuff. Thanks.

Hi Tammy- I use vinegar water with some essential oil drops in it. use about 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water. Yes, it does give a vinegary smell when you spray it, but as it dries it kills the bacteria and microbes that cause odor and leaves a sweet smell behind.

Hi girls, I am new to all of this but very excited about all of the green house cleaning items. My only qestions are where do I get washing soda, tea tree and all of the essential oils. I did not have a great herb garden this year so, lavendar buds are not available either.
Thankful for all of this great information.

I get my washing soda from Ace Hardware. The Tea Tree and the Essential Oils (EO's) I get from Etsy. I'm still trying to find a good balance for my EO's in my cleaners, but, it's so, so worth it! And I've used my laundry detergent for years. We'll see how it stacks up against cloth diapers once DD gets here!

I finally found washing soda at a little grocery store that I have driven past hundreds of times. Geez!

Susan, for Lavender buds, try www.bulkherbstore.com I get a lot of my dried herbs from them.

If anyone needs me to, I can get it at my local Ace and ship it to you. The Ace website might ship to you as well. :)

This isn't quite a recipe but I usually put apple cider vinegar down all my drains just to prevent any clogs from forming. So far I have never had to deal with a clog! It has been over two years since I have started doing this!

Hello ladies~I am new to MJF so just found this topic. I love these recipes! Have been using green cleaning products for a while now but learned a few new ones. I have been making my own laundry soap for years using borax. But recently read an article by enviromental working group stating "Borax is a pesticide that poisons insects, fungus and weeds, but it also has plenty of other uses that we encounter in consumer products." It is a short term irritant and long term hormone disruptor.

So the question is what is our alternative for making laundry soap without it? For now I guess that it is still better than store bought detergent but when it is time to make new I would like a better recipe.

I don't know if this came up already - but to prevent clogs in my kitchen sink I put some baking soda, then some white vinegar let it do its stuff and then rinse it all down withvery hot water. Works like a charm.

Hey Farmgirls! Need some help in finding all those ingredients. I went to WholeFoods and a farm supply store and I could not find Borax or washing soda. Any ideas where I can get these?

If you have an Ace hardware, they may be able to order them for you. I too have found my Borax at Walmart.
