OH, Julia, Thank you so much! I was especially looking for spray cleaner and also how to "sweeten" the smell. I've been making my own laundry detergent and using vinegar for softner but scenting sounds great! Where do you get lavendar "buds"? Do you have to grow them yourself or can you purchase them? Where do you get your Essential Oils? Thanks so much and do you have a dishwasher detergent recipe coming?
No rush....you're whetting my appetite though!

Hi Monica! Castile soap is soap made with all olive oil. And you can order both online if needed, but if you have a natural foods market/organic market or health food store in your area they should have both.

Julia- can the all purpose spray be used on stains on clothing? Our socks get real dirty and stained but I don't want to use spray and wash. Would like a natural stain remover. thanks

Hmmm, Gail, I would think it would work. It is worth I a shot. I have never tried it for stains, it would be nice if it did work, so one would have a stain remover on hand.

As for the ingredients, most I have found at Wally World and my local grocery store. I had looked all over for Castile soap, with no luck, then spotted on the bottom shelf at the store. You may look at outdoor stores for the castile soap as it is used a lot by campers and hikers as it is earth friendly.

I tried the vinegar for the fabric softner and it is wonderful. We have very hard mineral water and it seems to make my whites whiter. Way to go farmer girl.

Here I am Kim! I had family here this weekend, spent the day recouping. So, what recipes should we have today? Hmmm...

Lemon Dish Soap

2 cups Liquid Castile Soap
10 drops lemon essential oil
5 drops Tree Tea oil

Mix and keep in a squeezy bottle. Works good as a hand soap too.

Gentle Wool Wash

2 cups liquid Castile soap
10 drops lavender essential oil
10 drops cedarwood oil

Mix well together. Store in squeeze bottle. Shake before using.

To use:
Fill sink with warm water. Add 1/2-1 of soap. Swish water a bit.
Let soak for 10 minutes. Gently rinse till water runs clear.
Gently squeeze out water, lay flat to dry.

Tub Scrub

1 cup of Baking soda
1/4 cup of salt
10 drops of a citrus essential oil
5 drops of Tree Tea oil
Mix well. Keep in an air tight container.

To use:
Sprinkle around tub and scrub. Rinse.

Dishwasher Detergent

1 cup of Borax
1/2 cup of Baking Soda

Mix well. Add to the dispenser as usual.

Fill rinse dispenser with white vinegar to make things squeaky clean.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner
1 gallon water
1 cup ammonia
1/2 cup vinegar
1/2 cup Baking Soda

Combine, and keep in a spray bottle.
You can add an essensial oil if you like.

Most health food, organic stores carry it. Look also at outdoor stores. I haven't found it in regular grocery stores.

I am on my second batch of laundry detergent and LOVE it! And my totally ungreen husband had to break down and tell me his clothes have never been so clean! I basically used recipe #1 with Fels Naptha. I have an HE machine too and it works great! I also put vinegar in the fabric softener cup! Thanks! :)

Yeah!!, Kristi! I love the fact that my clothes actually smell clean. The store bought detergent, seemed to just give a fragrance. The homemade products make a difference!

Hey, Julia!

On the dishwasher detergent. Do you fill the little detergent holder, close it, and that's all? Or do you put a little more in your pre-wash area, too? I can't wait to try this! We just ran out of "real" detergent a day ago.

I just put it in the detergent holder, close it and that's all! If you have extra yucky dishes you can always add more. Mine clean up just fine with just the regular amount. I do have white vinegar in the rinse dispenser to make them extra clean.

We love our homemade laundry detergent here too. I have been making it since...oh my about 5 years now! We only occasionally will buy commercial stuff (usually when we can't find the ingredients) and we always regret it!

I made the laundry detergent like Kristi and I have an HE machine too....how much are you gals using? I started with 1 TBS and then 2TBS and now I am using about 1/4 cup....is this too much? It's just so hard to only put 1 TBS in...I'm sure it's how I've been "duped" for so many years! LOL! Thanks Julia for all your wonderful recipes!
