Ok.. I was just out in the studio, surveying the possibility of making room for the new chicks to come home to stay & grow.. It has been so nice to let the older two (that are not broody) to run free in the garden, yard & around the pond, Dh suggested we take the waterer out of the coop because it keeps getting full of straw & the hens know where the other waterer is outside, (so they don't go without fresh daily.) I went to remove the box that the waterer was sitting on and Yep! 5 nice eggs in the box laying neatly in a nest, that the other golden girl had made.. I never thought to look inside because it had been turned on it's side ....I was So excited.. I dropped one and Buster thought it was dessert! so now I have 4 eggs. Yeahhhhhhhh!

Told ya! Isn't it fun? And they should all be good. All those eggs I found are all good so far. Yeah!! If they are like mine they will find another place now.

Kristin. I will check see in the morning. I did find a fake egg in that box along with the real ones , I knew I had one out there but I think it fell on the floor I couldn't find it in the straw & somehow it got inthe box.. Do you have problems with Mice in your chicken coop?

If there are mice out there they don't last long. I've never seen any. And I have 2 ducks that eat anything little that moves. They ate a baby guinea once that got in the fence. Before I could even think what to do a duck snatched it up. And chickens will eat mice and frogs, too. I did see a snake skin out there last year. We have a piece of plywood on blocks in the middle section and there has got to be something under there. I can see little tunnels. I'm hoping it's still the rabbit that got loose a few years ago. But I doubt it. So I try not to stay out there too long!
And the hen that was laying eggs out back laid hers in the hen house today along with the other one. So I have 3 that are laying.

Three hens a laying is good... I have a couple holes I see too in the corners of the coop... under the straw. I have quite a bit layered in there for winter warmth. I want to clean it out this weekend when the weather is supposed to be near 70!! The two that are out & about are so funny to watch.. I could sit & watch them for hours.. Cheap entertainment for sure..
