I am posting this thread because I feel it addresses something that potentially affects everyone here. I would like to know why a post I made this morning in another thread was deleted (the mods should know which one I'm talking about). It seems to me that while there are claims of "we don't/shouldn't discuss certain topics here," that those claims really only hold true depending on where you fall on the political/religious spectrum (and if anyone wants to try and say otherwise, I've got plenty of examples to support my opinion). In case anyone hasn't noticed, we've "lost" quite a few really fantastic people here over the past couple of years, in several cases due to this exact issue.

Or, was my post removed because I addressed someone else's error? Sorry, but if you're going to make a particular argument about something, you'd better darn well be able to spell the key words in that argument!

Sorry about the rant; I just needed to get that off my chest, since I've met some really great people and learned a lot of great things here, and would hate to feel like it's not worth it to stop by.

Oh, and btw, for anyone interested, here's part of what my post included this morning - a NYTimes op-ed piece on gun control (so, if you think you may be offended, just don't bother to click): http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/14/opinion/14herbert.html?_r=1

Thanks for reading.

I missed the original thread.

This issue ranks up there indeed with politics and religion. BOTH of which ought to be able to be reasonably discussed no matter the opinion.

And honestly?? If everyone was able to carry a concealed weapon, it might make the bad guys reconsider who they make their next targert.

If no one knew who was packing heat, and it was assumed we all did, perhaps a few more lives could have been spared.

Maybe if a weapons safety course was offered similar to how we must obtain a drivers lisence, would this help?

Someone stop me if I'm out of line too.

Thanks for the discourse Anna - even though I'm on the opposite side from you. *lol*

While I appreciate your "making the bad guys reconsider" argument, I saw a piece on 20/20 the other night that showed a scenario in which people were given hand-guns and trained in how to use them, then were put into a situation in which an armed individual attacked. The "regular people" failed miserably in their self-defense, shooting innocent bystanders and putting themselves at greater risk, even ending up shot by the "bad guy." It was truly eye-opening.

Clearly, as long as guns are allowed, though, there needs to be far more training, licensing, background checks, psychological testing, etc.

We will always MODERATE (delete) rudeness. The sole reason for your post that was deleted this morning was to correct someone's spelling errors--unnecessary and hurtful. There are MANY unmoderated, or in your words uncensored, chatrooms on the internet. They DO NOT have the pleasant feel and high standards that ours does. We suggest you find a home on another site where people can jab and poke and have an opinion on heated matters to their heart's content. Please read again (or maybe for the first time) our forum decorum rules:
