Or recipes to make something that will work? I have not found ANYTHING to effectively get rid of the stains or smell! Unfortunately.... I haven't caught the culprit so it could be the cat or dog! And they seem to prefer carpet which is only in my kids rooms! We plan to replace it with tile within the next year but in the meantime their rooms smell like hamsters live in there! And nothing I have tried has worked. Help!

Plain old peroxide works WONDERS on stains, Kristi. I keep mine in a spray bottle, and I spritz it on the carpet. Works best on dry ones - even really old ones will come out. No matter what the source, they just disappear! It helps with odor also, but not 100% effective - not sure anything is.

Try Natures Miracle if the peroxide doesn't work.

After you use the peroxide, try some vinegar on it, that will help will the smell.

I didn't even think of vinegar! I bought some peroxide today.... of course I didn't have any at home when I needed it! I think tomorrow I will use one in one room, and the other in the other. (Did that make sense? It's been a long day!)

Thanks for the help!

Totally makes sense! Testing to see which works more thoroughly!

I don't know if you have Bio-Kleen in your area but their Bio-Enzyme is great! You can get it here at Fred Meyer, Whole Foods.

Okay I used them both. I used the peroxide in my son's room. Worked GREAT on the stain but not so much on the odor.... but it got the stain out totally! The vinegar I used in my daughter's room where the scent was a problem! It seemed to work but when it dried the stain had turned bright yellow! Weird! But on the flip side it took out the odor! So..... I figure between the vinegar taking out the smell (and hopefully keeping the guilty party from doing it again!) and the peroxide working on the stain.... I will be good until we put down tile. Regardless, they both worked better than anything else I had tried! Thanks for your advice everyone!

I'd like to try the vinegar suggestion on some spots on my own carpet now that you're reporting success with it, but what about the vinegar odor itself?? Does it come out of carpet easily, or does the floor smell like pickles forever??

Oh no! Once it was dry.... no vinegar smell! And I used it on a lot of stains in one room!
