I bought the idea book and wanted to see if I could find a site with other people inspired by this great book. I was delighted to find this forum. I am a busy Mom with 8 children so I may not be very active but I hope to contribute in some small way. We just bought a nice large house on 2.7 acres that we plan to use for gardening and a small flock of chickens. At our last house we did raised bed gardening on a small scale. We plan to branch out larger now and can't wait to begin!!! I also quilt and love, love, love cooking. My husbands name is Pete and our children are: Noah 13, Jonah 11, Isaac 10, Elijah 8, SimonPeter 6, Tobias (Tobi) 5, Faith (our only little girl) 17 months, and Linus 6 weeks. Oh, and my name is Kathryn.

I look forward to getting to know you all!

Kathryn

Welcome Kathryn!! Boy it sounds like you must be busy!! I have 7 children..but not as close together..in fact 3 of my boys are grown and I only have 4 still at home..seems like NOTHING compared to 8. I am sure we can learn alot from you! How nice that you have space..I feel like kids need space (and chickens too!!) to run and play in the outside. I bet your little Faith is a princess being the only girl.
Just join right in with our conversations..we tend to talk about everything!! I am glad you found us!!

Kathryn!! Welcome from another Catherine!! You will certainly find kindred spirits here. I hope you get to visit more often than you think you might have time for. It'll be nice chatting with you. Do you happen to homeschool? Just wondering....most large families I meet are homeschoolers. We're a small family of 4 that h.s. and I know I think I'm busy!! I love this site so much that I wake up an hour early (4 a.m.) just to come chat because I may never get another chance in the day. Have FUN!!!!!!

Blessings
Catherine

Welcome, Kathryn!

Have you always lived in the Front Royal area? Years ago (mid-80s) I lived and worked atop the Blue Ridge Mountains, at Shenandoah NP. I love it there -- and the Shenandoah Valley. The last time I was there (May of 1999) I stopped in Front Royal at Subway to get a sandwich before I went into the park. GORGEOUS area!

Looking forward to hearing more from you.... Karin

Hey Kathryn!
Wow, it sounds like you have your hands full with 8 children! You moms are the best! I'm looking forward to getting out in the garden, too! And chickens! Chickens are my newest obsession! Wish I could have chickens, but I haven't convinced my mom that keeping them in the backyard (we live in a subdivision) is a good idea! Share all your ideas with us! It's great to have you here!

Much love,
Laura

Thank you for the warm welcome!!! I look forward to enjoying this "chat" forum as much as I can. Yes, we do homeschool and I DO live in Front Royal!!! What a small world! I moved here from Texas in '98 and just love the mountains, people, vinyards, orchards etc..etc...

Welcome Katheryn
Wow 7 children I have 2 (a son 4 years and daughter 19 mos) and I think that is hard!
I love your names mostly Bible names. My son is named Caleb.
I love that area of VA. I live near the VA line just south of Danville. I too am homeschooling although we are not doing too much yet. I couldn't imagine homeshooling the older one with the 2 babies! that has to be hard.
we will enjoy hearing from you from time to time.

Hey there - I haven't checked in for a month or two - welcome. I am in Virginia, also, homeschooling my daughter and starting (slowly) a homestead. And you, too, garlic lady (Reidsville??, wouldn't it be fun to have a farmgirl get-together sometime - you two may be the closest to me.
Also, I go through the Danville/Yanceyville area all the time on the way to see my family - and my Mennonite friends are there selling fabulous meat, eggs, and dairy.
Take care,
Kirsten in Buchanan, VA
