I am looking for a super simple crock pot recipe for my ham. We are not a pinapple clove family. Its a 7-8 pound, butt cut. How much water do I use??? None of the recipes tell me. Do I cover it? Or just enough to cover the bottom half? Please help! How would you cook in the crock pot?

Hi Kathy!

I once cooked a ham in my crockpot with the cloves and the brown sugar glaze that came with it. I didn't know I needed to put water in the crock pot so it only cooked in it's own juices and it turned out FANTASTIC. So I would say maybe only put a cup of water in at most. The ham has a lot of juice and you don't want boiled ham, after all!

Alee,
That is what I was thinking too. So I will only add a little water. Thank you!

I always cook my ham in the crockpot. This is the simplest recipe ever and gets rave reviews from my family.
Are you ready? All I do is place my ham in the crockpot and add a two liter bottle of rootbeer until it just about covers it.
Thats it. Nothing more!

I never thought about doing a ham in the crockpot. What a great way to have it cooking while at church on Easter Sunday. I bet the root beer would make it delicious!! Thanks for the tip.

Erin,
Rootbeer? That sounds different. I seen one that used cola or gingerale.
I have always used the oven but his year I need to make a turkey also.
Thanks everyone!

Yes Kathy, rootbeer. You should have seen my family's faces when they saw me put it in the first time. I think they thought I was loony! But when they tried it they really liked it. I've been making my ham this way ever since!

Erin,
Just wanted to let you know that the rootbeer worked out great!! The ham tasted great. I think I might have cooked it just a little too long because it fell completely off the bone!
It was Grrrrreat!!
Thank you
