You're right, Elizabeth...it's the Crosby Mint Farm. They are giving tours on the Saturday of the festival. We took the tour two years ago. It's a wagon ride behind a tractor. They have a nice little gift shop in a barn on the premises, too.

We'll probably be living in Shelby Township or Rochester Hills, perhaps Sterling Heights... Haven't started house-hunting yet, don't have a date when we have to be there, and I still need to find a job.

Hey there all. I'm Sarah, mom of 3 (from almost 4 to almost 14), almost finished sociology student, saver of history and of course, farmgirl. I registered a while ago and not much was going on, I hadn't checked in here in quite some time and look at you Michigan mamas getting around :D

Melissa, I'm just south of you, outside of South Haven - we should meet up

Starmeadow - who is your potter friend? We have quite a few sweet galleries around here

Anyhow, nice to 'meet' you all

Sarah,
Very nice you joined up. Nice to have another person from michigan,
Michele, Did your sister ever get the orange juice containers I sent her? Hope so. Would love that pattern for the little change purse.
Hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July. WE are staying home. We learned a while ago that we don't travel around any holiday. Too much traffic!!! Well think red, white and blue!!!

Beverly,
Yes, Rise got the cartons and is right now teaching the class. It is a big success. The kids are loving it, even the boys, which surprised us.
I will have her email you the pattern.
Hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th of July.
Wish I was at BBB. Oh, well, there is always next year.

Also, anyone coming to St. Johns for the Mint Festival should be sure to visit the Farmers Market on Saturday morning which is down town next to the court house. Watch for the organic stand, by Lexie that should be on the side of the street opposite the court house, with Two Dirty Girls and Sisters' Sundries right next to her. Two Dirty Girls will have herbs and veggies, raised organically, and Sisters' Sundries has laundry soap, aprons, burp cloths, tote bags and organically managed angus ground beef.

Wow...I LIVE here - like two blocks from the courthouse - and I didn't know about Sister's Sundries! I went to the FM a few times two years ago, but I think it was still getting off the ground. There weren't many vendors, and they didn't sell anything I didn't already have an abundance of. I'll have to try it again this Saturday. Thanks for the info!

Just got back from a cottage in Ohio. Me, my sis, our mom, my daughter and granddaughter.
Had a great time.

Girls, I've been out of the loop a bit. Summertime is the busiest time ever for my business - then of course there is camping and fun with the family to fit in. I've not read all of the posts yet, but I'd love to know about the next get together.

Michelle, I'm making weekly flower deliveries to Whole Foods in Ann Arbor and driving right through Brighton every week. This past week I was able to take the time to go to the Ann Arbor Art Fair, visit Trader Joes, Home Goods and of course Whole Foods - all things that we don't have in Grand Rapids.

As I'm reading some of these posts - the Allegan Antique Flea Market is the last Sunday of every month. I'll be going this last Sunday in July. I'm under strick instuctions from my sweet husband to not take on any commitments - church or other - that day. We have missed all of the Allegan markets this year due to family or church commitments - but not THIS month :)!

Ann...you'll be near my house! Absolutely no commitment but an open invitation to stop in if you're not too tired after all that shopping! I'm afraid we'll be in GR this week...my darn truck broke down again:(

OK...stories of the big UP Adventure! It was a wonderful trip but chilly!! Went on the tour through the locks at the Sault..very cool...camped by Tahquamenon Falls for two days at the Rivermouth Campground. Very quiet and relaxing. Visited Whitefish Point and played on the beach in Lake Superior (and came home with some Lake Superior rocks). Investigated cranberry bogs...who knew they grew on vines?? I thought they were bushes! And wound our way back through the woods over 20 miles to the Crisp Point lighthouse to climb to the very top (VERY skinny ledge) and see iron ore ships out in Lake Superior! Ate at a great little cafe in Paradise called the Blueberry Patch...yummy baked goods and great homemade beef soup. Had fresh caught whitefish at a little fish place in Paradise too. Saw all the falls...hiked and hiked.

Headed home we were south of Paradise (somewhere) and the car just QUIT! THEN...it started...and we drove 1/2 mile and it QUIT! This time not to work again.... Alas...my phone was almost out of juice and we were just on the outskirts of my phones "area".... After much confusion and trying to find someone to come out to the "middle of no-where" we got in touch with Marv in Newberry. Almost 3 hours later (and a $160 towing fee) we were sitting in the middle of the Ford dealership waiting for the mechanic to get back from lunch... I was worried we'd have to stay all night somewhere but there was a KOA nearby so I wasn't that concerned but we did have a hotel booked in Oscoda on Lake Huron for the night. Well, mechanic checked the car and it was a loose hose!!!!!!!! Can you believe it????? I thought for sure he'd charge me another 60$ because the mechanic tightened the screw but he only charged me 10 and we were on our way! We still took the long way around Lake Huron but were really tired out by the time we got into Oscoda. We walked on the beach and swam in the pool (lake too cold) and then watched some tv. Ate pizza at this great little place in town and got some shut eye.

I mean...it could have been so much worse...it could have been Sunday...raining...too hot...a fuel pump problem...pick something. But all in all...just part of the adventure. I was disappointed that we didn't get more time to enjoy our beach time in Oscoda...but alas...that was the worst of it, so I'm thinking we were off lucky!

Now this was just me and my 9 year old mind you...

Oh, and we did see an eagle flying low while coming down the sunrise side of the state. Man, they are beautiful. No bears or moose this trip though. Not even a beaver! Maybe they were all thinking they should have been hibernating already! LOL It was pretty chilly! We were toasty though. I have a great little tent and some good sleeping bags. We packed for the weather as well. So no biggie there. We did run into the most prevalent wildlife in the UP quite often though...MOSQUITOES!!!!

So, we were home 5 days and then off to the hills of southern Kentucky! Another adventure to be sure!!! On this one we came home with a new addition to the family...a little beagle pup we're calling Sophie. She was dropped off and left. Poor thing dug under the fence just to be with people. She cost me 231$ today at the vet but she's healthy. We found out she's about 7-8 months old though. So next month she gets spayed! She's a good girl and adjusting well to a house in MI.

Whew...I better stop traveling anywhere or I'm gonna go broke with all these little "extras" (but I couldn't leave her...she's only 16 pounds and I was afraid a cougar might eat her or something....)
