Hello...words cannot describe how happy I am to have found MaryJane and this site. What an extraordinary group of women!

My name is Dawnn, I just turned 38 years old, I have three beautiful children (5, 4 and 2) and am married to my soul mate. I am a corporate attorney and my dear husband is a stay at home Dad. We live just north of Dallas.

I am going through a personal transformation at the moment. My husband and I decided that the big beautiful new house that we built two years ago in a master planned golf course community wasn't our dream after all - its not just the house but the "lifestyle" and everything that comes with it. So we bought 4 1/2 acres with a small home on it and are proceeding to do some work on the house while trying to sell ours.

I am so excited to begin living an authentic life on our property--sometimes I think I am going to burst with dreams. My kids love the open space and the freedom. We are going to have animals (chickens, goats, a horse-maybe more) and an organic garden (and a much smaller house with concrete floors (no beige carpet anywhere!!).

I have always been drawn to farm life (must be in my native Iowa blood) and have taken the first leap towards having the life that I want for me and my family. A simpler life but a much more rewarding existence.

Simplfy is my current mantra; however getting to nirvana isn't without struggle. Juggling a full time stressful job, 3 kids, and 2 mortgages can take its toll. But just when I have thought "I can't do this", I will pick up Mary Jane's book, or my McMurray chicken catalog, or get online and read all the wonderful words from this group and I am revived.

I look forward to meeting you all.

Dawnn

Thanks for the welcome!! Jenny, I love Mona!! She is beautiful--I will have to go back and search for discussions on cows since I know very litte about them but would love to have one some day. I do have hobbies but not much time for them right now. Luzy- your quote is hilarious! I love photography and reading. As soon as we move to our "farm" (which I need to name), I will be busy with setting up shelters for our animals (already have my order ready to go for chicks and guineas!) and planning a garden. Of course, every Saturday we work on the house (and cleaning the one that is on the market for showings!!) and I do cylcling classes at the gym 4 days a week - stress relief and the ever struggle for some semblance of my pre babies body. I also like to rug hook but have been working on the same rug for three years! So glad to be here and can't wait to hear more about everyone.

D.

Hi Dawnn! Welcome to the farm!! Wow, you're life right now could be made into a great movie....city goes country or country goes back to country. I wonder how many people build their "dream home" like y'all did and then realize it's not what they want at all. I admire you for taking the jump to change....not many people would do that. Congrats!

I'm just north of Houston, probably about 4 hours away from you. Perhaps a meeting in the middle someday...say, at Centerville! Not much there, but it's in the middle.

Blessings
Catherine

Please don't hold the "lawyer" thing against me! Thanks for the encouraging words - I think the catalyst for me (well one of many) was that I kept thinking that when I "retire", I can have the life I want-then I realized how absolutely insane that was- life is too short. Catherine - (love your name- My daughter is Katherine) a meeting in the middle would be wonderful!

Have a great day!

Hey Dawnn!
What a great story! How exciting it must be for you to make your dream come true! I think a lot of people these days don't follow their dreams, but instead follow the "American Dream." Big house, nice cars, the newest this and the fanciest that. But then you have the price tag that comes with those things: the need for two incomes, less time with your family, the stress of keeping up with the Jones'. It wouldn't be worth it to me. When I have kids of my own, I want to raise them with room to run, to play, to explore. I want them to appreciate the earth and nature, to play in the dirt and catch worms. And I don't want a huge fancy house. What's the point if all of us will be tracking dirt in anyway? A home filled with love is worth more than a home filled with expensive items. But enough of my rambling! This post is suppost to be about you, not me! I wish your family and you the best of luck with your new simpler life! Keep us posted!

Much love,
Laura

Laura --

Thanks for your welcome and I absolutely agree...I think a lot of people just simply get caught up in the daily race that they forget their priorities or they think that they are providing for their families. Parents should remember what they remember about their childhhood...I bet it's not fancy houses or presents but time--simply time spent together.
