| Help! So I'm not sure if there is a thread going for this topic, I saw one on how cute squirrels were and "using" them to chase off rats,but my problem is the squirrels themselves!!! I got out to check on my containers of veggie plants and found that something had dug up and torn out a bunch of the little guys! They were doing so well too! I have been really excited about my pickling cucumbers and yellow pear tomatoes...now I fear too many will die! Then...I found the peanut, one of the ones we leave out for the squirrels! Hmmm, that's how they repay me for their meals! grrrrr....soo, what can I do to get them to leave my stuff alone without hurting them? |

Ugh! I feel your pain! My subdivision is overrun with squirrels(aka: yard rats) and they raid and destroy my birdfeeders, hummingbird feeders, bulbs, plants, and veggies. I tried feeding them in hopes they'd leave other stuff alone, but all it did was attract more of them, and increased the carnage in my yard!
I guess the only way we can keep them out of our containers and garden beds is to fence around them(making sure you cover the top also so they can't get in that way.
Funny story-there's a gentleman in my garden club who got tired of the squirrels raiding his tomatoes, so he purchased a large chain link dog kennel and grew his tomato plants inside of it.
