Hi Maryjane.
Borax will not bleach your darks. It is perfectly safe. ;) When I was making my own with borax and baking soda, I did my dark in it all the time and no problems!!:)

Thank you so much farmgirls! I am teaching a class in my home for 40+ sisters from my church on how to make laundry detergent and I know they will ask this question! I have been using my detergent for 2 months now and have not seen a change in my darks but needed to know from you pros! Isn't homemade laundry detergent the best!!! xox

MaryJane Lee,

I read an older post and Alee said not to use hot water on darks using the detergent because the Borax will act as a peroxide.

Exactly- the warmer the water the more the borax turns into a peroxide, so wash darks in cold and there won't be any harm.
